Default What is the "Trial Brake" application?

Hey guys,

I just installed the Ferodo DS2500 brake pads today and want to follow the proper bedding in procedure for these pads.

According to Ferodo, it states the procedure as "To achieve optimum performance from Ferodo Racing brake pads please follow the instructions below: Perform 25 to 30 trial brake applications, each of approximately 4 seconds, using around 50% of normal race pedal pressure. To shorten the procedure applications can be made along the straights as well as through bends." What is "trial brake" application?

Thanks!

As a street pad, the DS2500 works great. Zero fade, zero noise, low dust. On the track they were sufficient for my skill level for a few lapping days. They will start to fade as you become more aggressive.

The reasons why I use Ferodo DS2500 brake pads:

Price: Ferodo DS2500 front brake pads are $103.00 and the rear brake pads are $93.00. Initially, I was going to purchase Carbotech AX6 brake pads, but the prices of those pads are out of my budget ($154 for the front pads and $145 for the rear pads). So I got these Ferodo DS2500 brake pads.

Coefficient of friction and Maximum operating temperature : Ferodo DS2500 has this value of 0.50 and MOT of 1,000 Fahrehiet which are sufficient for my current driving level as well as daily use.

When I visited ASM Yokohama in 2009, I saw Ferodo DS3000 and DS2500 on the diplay shelf and this got me thinking about why they sell these brake pads at their store. I just want to get these brake pads and see how they perform on my car.

My impression on these brake pads after the bedding in procedure:

Along with the new brake pads, I also replace the OEM brake rotors with the new blank rotors.

Just like modMonkey says, they did a great job on the street. However, I think the dust level is modderate.

Hope it helps you in determining on finding your proper brake pads.

Just curious, how come I see so many S2000 owners with really expensive pads? I don't hear mention of ceramic pads like AEM, Hawk or Axxis. Or do you guys use noisy metal race pads like Pagid?
