2piece rotors

This type of failure is eliminated with the design of the AP Racing "Sprint" kit...

Could you explain a little more about how it's fixed with the sprint kit? Do you know what brand the rings that failed were? I have two-piece rotors and now this has me a little spooked.

I got a new Wilwood 6piston BBK with two peice rotors/ brackets/ pads and hardwear for mine. Summit Racing had the best deal by far @ $14XX for what retails for 1900+. I have been on this BBk for about 15k, and I will say, that if I had the traction to do so, I could stop a train. Here is a snap shot on my cr.

This is just speculation since I don't know EXACTLY how the Wilwood BBK is designed, but from how the hat is mounted, the tab significantly protrudes from the rotor. When the rotor is loaded, there is a significant moment applied to those tabs. With limited stress relief on the mounting tabs, this caused the rotor to flex and fail due to fatigue. I don't think it is a metallurgy issue (I assume Wilwood does a decent job with their QA). Car was only running RS3s too. I assume 255/40/17 or 265/35/18 or even 285/30/18. Either way, that's not enough grip to justify the damage. Anyways, just speculation on my part.

Just compare the two kits and its easy to see the difference in the rotor and how its mounted to the hat. They are very different and I think you are right David.
I had always though that the Willwood kits where the lightest kits out there and were best used for street and autocross, not heavy track use as they are not as durable as a kit like AP, Stoptech, Brembo.
