Convertible CR?
 

I have been slowing working my way through S2000's (03,04,06,06) but have got the CR bug. I like the CR looks BUT get very bummed when I can't drive top down but almost always park with the top up. So I don't see that is is possible to have a soft top. Adding a top from a wreck seems like it should be possible but must be a LOT of work to accomplish. Anyone done this? :ponder:

What other options are there to keep the hard top off but keep out "stuff" when parked. Maybe a boot like the MG's used to cover the cockpit?

Monte (Mchester) Has done this, he did it the OEM way, trimming the package tray, different wiring harness etc. It was a lot of work.

There is an easier way, just installing a non motorized soft top without package tray...it just bolts right in and you're good to go. There was an Apex Blue CR in Dallas that was for sale in the classifieds section a bit ago that had done this.

There are a couple companies that make cockpit covers for the CR. Look around a little and you'll find them in this sub-forum.

I have not been able to find them yet. Any names or makes to aid my search?

Covercraft comes to mind, make sure you buy the Weathershield HP for keeping moisture out and UV protection. There are other manufacturers of a similar product, but theirs is a quality product with a good guarantee.

We recently did a soft top install in one of our other s2000's and learned quite a few tricks about the soft top install. If you just want a soft top and don't need the motors, you can save quite a bit of weight!

All the OEM holes are there for a soft top assembly to just bolt right now. If you want the motors then you need all the electrical harnesses.

I rarely if ever put my soft top up on my s2000 and to avoid debris or bird crap from getting inside the car I picked up a "canopy cover" which basically is a UV rated white car cover material top. It covers the entire cabin area, front windshield and also the rear soft top area. It's easy to install, there are soft loops that attach to each side mirror. I tuck the front edges under the windshield wipers and the rear straps go inside the trunk so it can't be stolen (unless they cut the cables).

Security is not an issue for me and obviously this is only meant to keep out dirt, not thieves. :hello:

I believe that Japan domestic market also had the type S, which has all the CR parts except the hard humped cover and it has the soft top.

Type-S is a little different from the CR: softer shocks/springs, no strut tower brace where the soft-top is located, and it came with RE050 (215/245).
