CR Engine Control Unit mysteries...

What exactly are the differences between the CR ECU vs. a base MY08-09 ECU?
I have read that CR's have a little more power and run a little leaner compared to base S2k's
what else is different?

I'm a noob when it comes to engine management stuff
just trying to justify buying a FlashPro with my new exhaust

thanks

According to Honda there is no difference....however the reality is quite a few people note differences. I know some CR owners that used flash pro wanted their CR map back saying it was different than the 08 base.

We need to get some proof or compare a base 08 to a 08 CR and maybe get Flashpro to create or store a CR map for us, and others to use.

Time for mike to
Chime in with his dyno sheet

Get the Flashpro that Mac has been "holding" for me and then get it tuned by Jei ;) - the main benefits in my mind are the ability to adjust the VTEC threshold and the automatic CEL deletion for going catless

Unfortunately there's no way to extract the stock map.

you could data log the 3rd gear pull when you first lock flash pro to the car and then run the log on the e dyno. It is acurate to about 3% as long as you input correct weights for car and driver. This will atleast give you an idea of HP and TQ.

Cant a tuner create a map that gives the same dyno readings/plot as a stock CR? I understand that this is very time consuming. Do people with flashpro when they want to go back to stock go to the dealer and pay for a reflash?

Biohazard 08-17-2011 11:58 AM

you could, flash pro just flashes back to stock AP2 ECU, so you could do that and then bring it to the dealer to reflash it to this claimed CR calibration. This is my first s2k and it being a CR, I don't know if there is a difference between it and the AP2

Gernby claims there is no difference. Mike, me, and some other CR dude who got his CR tuned by some tuner also noted that the AFR was slightly leaner for some reason. It's not solid evidence though. What we do know is that the CRs consistently baseline a few ponies more than a base model S2000. We're thinking Honda just put the stronger motors into the CR.
