Default CR Tires

My CR that I bought has mismatching tires Khumo's on the front and Conti's extreme contacts on the Rear. Sizes are correct but the Khumo's are not rated for speed and are cheap. Conti's are fine and almost new. My original thinking to wear the tires out, and then put on the OEM Bridgestones REO70. I am keeping the car unaltered but may want to do a driving school at a track. This is a weekend car and I seldom have it in the rain. So, my question is should I put on the original Bridgestones? Or, do I go for a newer tire like the Dunlop ZII Star Spec?

The Z11's are excellent tires and offer the latest tire technology. Having said that I've seen some great sales on the RE070's, just be sure to have the date of manufacture verified so that you aren't buying 5 year old tires to begin with.

I liked the factory Bridgestone tires but didn't like the 650 for the back two every six months. Other tires will do the job just get something with the proper ratings.

I've never had any other tires but the RE070s on my CR. Trying to respect the way Honda developed the CR suspension with these tires in mind. I'm getting ready to order a new pair for the rear from Tire Rack.(of course)

Huge fan of the ZII Star Spec as well however I know the RE070 is getting harder to find and some CR owners are really high on the new Bridgestone RE71R

The RE71R has quite a bit more grip in dry weather compared to the Z2. In wet weather, the 71R blows the Z2 out of the water (pun intended).

71R's are less expensive and more advantageous than the RE070R...and they work well in rain.

If the new CTR ever does come out...I will predict it will be on RE71R's. Bridgestone seems to have some standing with Honda. It seems like 71R's are the modern day RE070. I would guess that anything "race spec" that comes out of Honda in 2016 will probably have the 71R's on it.

The OEM has stiffer side walls and gives a much quicker turn in and better steering feel than both the Star Spec II and RE-71R. The RE-71R is close to the OEM in steering feel yet soft enough for good daily driving, now in terms of track time you will get better wear out of the Star Spec II.

So if your going to primarily use the car for track days go Star Spec II, if you are going for mostly street driving I would go RE-71R.

Wait...track days Z2 and street driving RE71R?? I'd have to disagree. If, for track use, longer wearing tires were preferred over tires that have better grip, we'd all be using all season hockey pucks for the track and hoosier A6's for the street.

The Z2 is a better street driving tire. You give up grip, but they wear for longer. The sidewalls must be softer than the RE71. I'm not the only one to say this. The 71R has very stiff walls. They feel significantly stiffer than the Z2 that I removed right before I installed the 71R.

The 71R is sticky. But the wear rate is waaaaay faster than the Z2. The Z2 usually gets old and loses grip before the tread wears out. It was the same story with the Z1. This is for track driving...not street driving, of course. Street driving doesn't break down tire grip nearly as fast as track driving does.

Either one is a waste for just driving around on the street. The RE070 is a waste for the street as well. A good street-only performance tire would be a Michelin Pilot SS (I have these on my DD), or a Kumho SPT (GF had them on her DD AP2). You're giving up grip. But its grip that you're probably never going to use if you're just driving around.

But if you really want an extreme performance tire, and youre primarily street driving....the RE11A would be my choice over the Z2 or RE71.

For track use and mixed street use...RE71R all the way.

Just getting around to pulling the trigger for tires. Never considered the RE71s so that makes the decision between them and the ZII. Basically the same price to.

I'm surprised, the RE71's were a LOT cheaper than the ZII StarSpec's when I got the ZII
