S2000 CR Club Racer Edition CR stands for "club racer," conjuring up the good old days when guys drove their sports cars to the track, raced them, and then, if the racing gods were smiling, drove them home again

Default Question Regarding the Type-R vs. CR

This Type-R was posted on eBay. 10,000 original miles and original owner.

I couldn't help but wonder, would a GPW CR in the same condition and miles retain the same amount of residual value?

Never say never... time will tell for sure. Even with my own CR bias aside, I don't see why a similar condition CR couldn't fetch a similar price down the road. Both the ITR and S2K are highlights in an era for Honda where they made some really fun, cool cars and the people who grew up with them may one day be in the market for one and there probably won't be a lot of great condition ones to choose from and thus the sellers can ask a higher price that some people would probably be willing to pay.

I think the answer is yes, a low mileage single owner CR is going for only a few thousand less than MSRP now, so why wouldnt that be true down the road? We have all seen S2000 prices drop, level off, and are now slowly climbing back up so I am sure that trend will continue with all S2000's, and CR's being rare and a special edition will be worth even more.

Absolutely,

In almost every instance aside from this one a CR is worth more than an ITR. This one is going for so much because it's likely the nicest in existence, and given its age would be almost impossible to find again in museum condition. Once a few more CR's drop off the planet and the remainders average 100K-plus miles you'll see cherry examples go for concourse prices.

Acura made over 3800 ITRs which is almost 5.5 times the number of CRs made. In 1997, the year of the car in the ad, they sold for $24,000 which has the buying power of almost $35K today. So the starting price is $1500 above MSRP adjusted for inflation. I think it's definitely possible for any CR in good condition to maintain that residual value.

Also to note, one could argue that the JDM ITR was better than the USDM ITR, but the CR is the best stock S2000 available worldwide.

Wow $40k? Guess someone wants to relive their childhood now that they have some money?

The Type-R is a special car for sure, but $40k seems nuts to me.

I guess the question is, can you hold onto a car that long and not drive it very much and still enjoy it. (Stock)

I know I can't. And I hardly drive my car.

That being said, as much as I've always wanted to own a DC2R, I'd never pay that much. Not even close. For someone out there, disposable income is a powerful thing

^ This. Yeah think about owning a car that long and only accumulating such low mileage. Keeping it in storage and not driving it is totally useless to me, regardless of what value you may someday fetch. These cars don't belong in museums.
