370z rearview mirror backup camera pinout

I did this about a year ago. Below is all from memory, will fill in with links to components I used if I can find them.
Some models of 370z used a Gentex mirror with backup camera monitor. Basically it was versions with the large, obstructing wing. Gentex GHSHL4 is the one with camera support. It also has Homelink garage door buttons, and compass with orange font that matches our dash. I used a generic rearview camera from Amazon, around $20. I found a wiring cover on eBay. It covers wire as it runs along windshield, and disappears into header trim. I notched header trim to allow cover to route into it. This cover is telescopic, so its generic, adjust to fit. I think I just searched for gentex wire cover or something. The mirror button was from eBay too. A kit with a bunch of different button sizes. One of them was perfect fit. The mirror I got from eBay, around $30. Often seller doesn't know it has camera so you can snag a deal. Look at auction photos to see if part number visible. If its GHSHL4, its the one you want. The auctions that knew it had backup camera were like $50+ or much more. Be patient, look carefully at photos, make sure auction says photos are actual item. The wiring harness I got from Crutchfield, around $30. Gentex Harness There is a lot of this harness that goes unused. So once I was sure what I needed, bench tested everything in tbe car but not mounted, I snipped off all the unused wires and connectors. This harness is also waaay longer than needed for our tiny cars, so much of it ends up coiled and stuffed behind dash. You can often find a Gentex harness on eBay, cheaper, but its only the part the goes into back of mirror. The rest of harness you'd need to fab and splice together. I figured it'd cost more to piece together what Crutchfield already built. But I had to move some of the wires around in the Crutchfield harness to make it work (would probably need to do that woth eBay connector as well). If you know how to depin a connector, and have the right tool, its easy. The pinout for the connector that plugs into this mirror (connector included in Crutchfield harness, but its pinout doesn't perfectly match below): looking at the back of the Crutchfield mirror connector, with the clip on top (in the same position as it's plugged in to mirror), from left to right: Top row: Ignition Reverse Exterior dimming mirror control Ground Camera video + Camera video - Bottom row Not used Not used Battery Exterior dimming mirror control Not used Not used I don't recall which wires I had to move, but it was two or three. You don't need Exterior dimming mirror control, mirror can do that on its own with just ignition power and ground. Homelink also just needs battery power and ground. Battery is constant 12v (IIRC, I wired this to ignition, so Homelink would only work with key on) Ignition is keyed 12v (so you can wire both Battery and Ignition to keyed 12v if you want) Camera + and -, camera uses an RCA jack. IIRC, center pin was + Reverse just needs to tap into reverse lights. You can do this either at the taillights, or under dashboard, using Green wire that is pointed out in a photo in one of the backuo camera threads. The camera also needs to be powered off reverse lights, so its on only when you backup. So its convenient to power that off a vampire wire tap at the reverse taillights. The Crutchfield harness includes a wire that can be used to bridge reverse light power from near camera RCA plug all tbe way to front of harness. Easier to use that than tap that Green wire, which is a bit buried. Before routing harness or mounting camera or mirror, wire it all up and test functionality. Remove the header and A pillar trim, and route harness down from mirror location to dash area, then under rocker panel plastic interior trim, and back into trunk area, back to rear of car. I folded the harness over on itself several times, to shorten tbe excess length, and used several zip ties to hold it together, and stuffed the mess behind dash, and zip tied that to something convenient. Made sure it wouldn't abraid and wasn't too sorry looking. That wires weren't kinked, etc. Make small puncture in existing tailight harness rubber gasket, and route harness through to reach camera. I mounted camera to bumper, just above license plate, making sure it could be unplugged for bumper removal. I used pop rivits, with rivit washers behind for added strength. I carefully angled mounting bracket so rearview would see decently behind car, but so that bumper was still in view, so I'd be able gauge distance to contact. Attachment 140099 Ok,.ots really hard to see here, but bumper is right at bottom of image. A thin line. Camera had ability to use backup direction lines, but mirror monitor already has them. So at first it was double lines. Had to figure out how to turn off lines on camera. Instructions were provided, so wasn't too hard. I mounted mirror button to the uppermost part of blacked out area on windshield meant for mirror button. Had the glass guy remove original button, and mount the new one. I cracked original windshield trying to diy, too much heat. Old windshield was badly pitted, so needed replaced anyway. He used a bic lighter, while glass on prep table, so heat rose away from glass. If doing this installed, maybe have soaking wet rag resting on outside, to absorb tbe heat. He used pliers to twist it off. He used significant force, so apparently secret is you remove even before glue fully softened. Mirror required some mods to ball joints on its arms, to allow enough articulation to move it fully up. I carefully used dremel to grind out part of the ball socket in mirror itself, to make room for arm to articulate further. To get even more space, I took a disk sander on drill, 80 grit, and shaved a bunch of plastic off top of mirror. Made curved area more flat. This allowed mirror to be pressed higher, up towards header. Sanded area can't be seen once installed. |

I got mine mounted - I used the mirror stem from a stock mirror and 3D printed an adapter. Turned out pretty good, some fully black screws would be nice but you can't see it really once installed anyways. Having home link and auto dimming is great as well. Is there any way to turn off the camera lines? Wow, cool! How did you get the mirror shell pieces separated?

It was a huge PITA, but there are clips all along the seam behind the front bezel. I used a bunch of those little pick things used for taking off phone screens

yeah sure. i'll attach the fusion file. when you take apart the mirror theres a metal part with the circular indent, you need to take that and trim it to fit into the slot in the print.
