So I've been doing some researching and it looks like with after market component 6.5 speaker set ups, the tweeter wont fit behind the stick opening in am AP1. I really dont want to mount the new tweeters anywhere else. My question is, if I simply buy replacement 6.5" speakers and plug them in, will my factory tweeters still work and do their job? If so and I have my highs only coming through the factory tweeters, what 6.5" speakers should I get that dont have built in tweeters? I have an after market Alpine HU. Not looking for anything crazy, stock speakers just crackle when turned up.

Yeah, I'd keep the OEM tweeters and replace the 6-1/2 inch ones. See if you like it.

It's not particularly difficult to replace the factory tweeters with aftermarket in the 2002+ AP1 pods - it's not
"drop-in" but most of them will fit fine, and no harder than the other things you need to do to fit aftermarket
component speakers such as mounting the crossover.
It's been a long time, but IIRC after you remove the door panels, you'll see that the factory tweeter is bolted
to a small metal bracket - as the new tweeter is unlikely to have a handy threaded hole in the back, you'll need
to attach it to the bracket in another way - glue/epoxy/double-sticky tape. You'll probably also want to remove
any grill the tweeter has so you don't have two grills.
