Best Buy sound setup

I know Best Buy does not carry the best stuff but was curious what you guys would use in a 2002 Ap1 in terms of HU, speakers, sub, amps, etc from there. Best Buy has been sending me offers for no interest 3 years again so I'm tempted to take advantage of it perhaps. Installation would definitely NOT be done there though :)

The head unit I was considering was the Alpine 9886.

good choice on the headunit... u can really tune your music pretty well with those..
i recently picked up a pioneer deh-p7100bt.... im not too big on music and audio tuning but i liked this one because it offers a decent equalizer, has bluetooth which works amazing, and it has a wireless remote made for the steering wheel which doesn;t look the best but unless you wanna dish out another 90 bucks for the modifry dci, this is a good substitute

save money till you can buy some good stuff

kdoggx2o00 09-13-2009 06:27 PM

^^ well you can get nice headunits from best buy.
the rest of the stuff, i'd save for too...bestbuy doesnt have a great selection of subs and amps to be honest

true, figured that was common sense

I like the 9886 but I wish I had gone for the IDA series. I don't think I've ever played a CD in the 9886.

I used to work for BBY and outfitted my AP1 before I left. I went with the 9886 like you are looking at and Alpine type R components in the front doors(i had to cut holes in my panels for tweeters) on the Alpine F300 4 channel amp. The sound is amazing. Also, most Best Buys have the ability to intergrate steering wheel controls but I'd order the modifry part and bring it to them cause it's a lot cheaper.

As far as labor and some product is looking (just so you don't get screwed)
Deck install - $50 (if you add an Ipod cable) add $20
Speaker Install - $70
(if you go with a component set) Component Speaker Install - $90
4-channel amp Install - $100
2-channel amp Install - $70
Amp Kit - $70 for an 8AWG and $110 for a 4AWG (only get a 4AWG if you plan on doing both a 4-channel and 2-channel)
If they try to say that you car is "harder" to work on and try to charge you an extra labor ask why because our cars are VERY easy cars to work on. If they keep saying it will be extra get a manager involved and if no luck after that, just leave cause they are just trying to dick you over. I worked with a few guys that would do things like that, and the sad thing was he was my boss so I couldn't do anything about it. Hope this helps.

Appreciate the input! As far as the deck I would install it myself. Anything involving components, subs, amps...I would take it to a local stereo shop highly recommended by other members on this board.
