I recently attempted to do the auto roll down fix but it wouldn't last after I shut my car off. I think this means window regulator for me

I am also currently having this issue and am able to locally source a used regulator. Does anyone know if there are any differences or changes with the regulators or is it the same for all years? The regulator I have access to is from an AP1.

I believe they are all the same.

Bumping this old thread because I have similar problem that cropped up last summer and I want to address it now.

I have an 03 with just 23K miles. Normal function is when you lower top both windows automatically go down. When I lower my top the driver's side window only goes down about 2 inches. Passenger side window works normally. Top goes up and down normally. Otherwise, both windows work normally using the window switches.

I am not a great electronic guy. Motors and mechanical stuff, yes. Electronic stuff, not so much.

Seems very likely to me that the soft top module, or a connection to the module, is the issue - agree?

Service manual has a lengthy diagnosis process, (see 2000 - 2003 Service Manual 22-144), that involves removing the lower passenger side dash panel to access the control unit, removing the two connectors to the control unit, and checking continuity etc. at all the connectors to locate fault and if that long process doesn't reveal a fault, you conclude the control unit itself is faulty. This checking each pin is something I have never done.

I think the radio installer that put in my after market radio and alpine under dash amp was working in this area to install the amp. So, maybe I'll find a disturbed connector or something and that will be the quick fix.

Any advice how to remove that lower dash panel without causing damage or breaking clips?

Appreciate any help/advice from folks who have futzed around with this.

I believe this is a pretty well documented failure mode of the window regulator. When you say
the window switches operate normally - if you press the door window switch all the way down
and release, does the window go all the way down without further intervention ("autodown")?
If not, it's definitely not the soft-top controller.
There are threads out there which claim to have fixed the problem, though usually temporarily,
through a convoluted "reset" procedure. Here's a thread.

Thank you! The TSB is 01-008 April 29, 2003. Covers MY 2000 - 2002 and part of 2003. My 03 is in the range.

I want to check the owners manual to be sure about the way that auto-down feature is supposed to work. I just checked my car. If I press the switch all the way down the window goes down about 2". If I press switch again to bottom the window goes down part way and stops. If I press a third time the window goes all the way down.

Nevertheless, I would bet dollars to donuts this is my problem. I am probably going to need a new window regulator. I'm sure that will be cheap!

Before I spend on that I want to read about the re-set solutions and maybe give that a try. I will update.

So I read a number of threads on this. I am convinced my problem is not caused by the convertible top module. The problem has to do with the window regulator. There is a window regulator re-set procedure described in the threads. I tried that. It fixed it. Reports are that the re-set does not always stick. So, have to wait and see. But, right now it is working perfectly again.

Here is a youtube showing the reset procedure I used.

The local dealer wants over $500 for a new regulator. Ugh.
