Help me pick speakers for S-pods

Hi,

First post. Thanks to everyone on the board. Learned a ton searching and reading old posts. Now I have a question I can't find the answer to.

I'm thinking of getting some rear speakers. Seems like S pods are the way to go. I'd like some help with choosing the speakers. I'm looking mainly for background fill so that i can have listenable volume at speed with the top down. I'd like to get something with a reasonably high sensitivity since I don't want an outboard amp and I am currently running the stock amp. I'd like to keep the price under $200 (I know... I'm a cheap ) :D

TIA
M

Try Crutchfield, they recently had Alpine components for about $150 a pair.
If you need S-Pod specs, you can find all the info you need at: www.streetsmarttechnologies.net

Save some money and don't even bother with component speakers. I don't think you need them for the rear, and they tend to be a little more power hungry than coaxial speakers.

I paid <$90 at a local shop for my 5 1/4" Boston Acustics. I demoed them in the shop with just HU power and they sounded great.

I just use it for fill also, and they work great for that.

I skipped the components too and just went with 5.25" Eclipse. They work great. Helps tremendously at highway speeds.

I have the reference infinity series and they sound great. You can pick them up on ebay for under $100

Thanks for all the feedback.

Coaxials would save me some money and if they sound good I'd love to go that route.

One other thing. I was looking at the infinity reference components, but wouldn't it be better to use them as my primary door speakers and put the stock speakers in the pods?

mark, I checked crutchfield but they have sold out of the Alpine ( or I can't find them).

the stock speakers are crap. I put the reference series in the doors and the s-pods all for under $200

Did you use the coaxials or the components? and where did you get them.?

Thanks

I agree, and they won't fit anyway. Most any aftermarket 5.25 will though. If you are set on the coaxials...go with what the posters here have used. Some coaxial tweeters protrude too far and are a P.I.A. to install.

Also, please remind me when you order about using coaxials so I can provide mounting plates cut for them. They aren't used very often, but the people who have seem to be happy.

I used the components. They were infinity 5000cs (S-Pods) and the 6000cs (doors) reference series. I did have to tape the tweeter to the seat in the pods but you can not tell. I found them on ebay by doing a search and I purchased them from indoaudio. Shipping was a little slow (received 14 days after payment), but product was brand new.
