key fob range

How much range do you have with your stock S2000 key fob? Mine is pretty limited, about 15 feet, which is a lot less than I got in my miata of similar vintage. I replaced the battery in my fob, so I know it's fresh. I'm thinking the alarm that was dealer installed may be the reason for the limited range, but I'm curious know others' key fob range.

S2000 key fob range has always been short as far as I know. I've never had any variance across the 3 that I've owned.

Yep, short. About 20 - 30 feet tops, maybe 50ish if I put it to my head. And yes... that does actually work :P But I normally do not care all that much since all it does is unlock and lock.

Yes. Or hold fob under chin when you press. Maybe doubles the range.

Correct, that is where I held it when I tested that. Under the chin. Worked pretty well... slightly less well for my wife ... she says because I have more water in my head lol

In a car with an alarm, the key fob communicates with the alarm control unit rather than the
keyless entry unit - if it's hidden in a more electrically shielded area (likely), it will shorten the range.

Not in my case, my fob is still attached the factory alarm. I'm about to post a different thread about it.
