MB Quart vs. S600S
hey I'm at that critical stage of buying my speakers, and want opinions on these picks. I'm mainly interested in the Q series and want to know the difference between the QSC(459.00) and QSD(649.00) and whether or not the C is comparable at 200.00 less. Also, are the PCE 216(309.00),and the newer(I believe) PVI 216 worth buying??? Any help here greatly appreciated. Kinda interested in the Diamond S600S too, but can a 200.00 speaker run with the MB's, or hit as hard???
Trust me when I say this...you won't be disappointed in the S600s.
Compared to the MB Quarts, the S600s' will be a bit warmer and hit a little lower frequencies. Not that the MB Quarts are a bad speaker. Just that better speakers can be found for the price.

have you listened to the MB Quarts? a sound wall isn't an ideal environment, but should give a sense of the speakers "sound signature." i've found mb quarts (at least all the one's i've heard with metal dome tweeters) to be harsh sounding. but plenty of people love them. i haven't heard the diamonds, though they look to be well constructed. does anyone know what the crossover frequency is for this set?
what are you going to be powering them with? the diamonds' sensitivity rating of 91db is calculated using the 2.83v@1m method, which makes them look more efficient than others using the 1v@1m method.

I have my S600s' powered off an Audison LRx 2.150 (conservatively rated at 85Wx2). Plenty loud enough at WoT with the top down / highway speeds.
As far as crossover freq, not sure where it is...but I'll tell you that I'm going to an active setup with the crossovers set at 3k/12db HP for the Tweets and 63hz/24db - 4k/6db BP for the woofers.

Thanks for the input guys, I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on the S600's. Seems like they are pretty well liked here. I got out-sniped on a pair of QSD 216's on ebay yesterday and I'm still pissed about that one(burgular, I know you're out there somewhere, BITE ME!!! Hope they're blown
) I thought $490.00 would do the trick. Y'know, the more I think about it, the more I think the S600's will be good. Whatever I get will be driven by an Alpine v12 4/3/2 amp. Bridged at 4 ohms, it supplies 120w continuous RMS. Just want something that's clear, natural, and thumps when the mood hits me...

Can't go wrong with Diamond's, IMHO. I've run Hex's in the past with zero problems and currently running the D971s, just make sure you buy Diamonds from an authorized dealer.
MB Quarts used to be a very good speaker (10+ years ago) when I sold them, but not so much anymore.
