Modifry DCI vs. Metra ASWC-1?

The OEM head unit on my '06 just failed. The CD player will no longer load or play discs. I've searched the forum and found that the Modifry DCI is the preferred way to maintain the dash controls on replacement units. I've also seen some have used the Metra (Axxess) ASWC-1, with some loss of functionality. What I haven't found is a direct comparison of the two solutions? Crutchfield offers the ASWC-1 for $22 with the purchase of the HU vs. $115 (DCI + harness) from Modifry.

Is the Mute button functionality the only loss in using the ASWC-1? Do the other dash buttons function properly? I'm looking at either a Pioneer or Kenwood as a replacement?

IMO, the greatest benefit with the Modifry DCI (if you option it anyways) is the Speed Controlled Volume; with the oem deck, I found myself manually increasing the volume while I was driving, when I stopped at a light, I found the sound too loud, the SCV fixed this.

The Modifry does a lot more fancy tricks (I have one) but if you just want basic functionality, then go for the Metra. Lots of UK based folk use similar to the Metra as they've been available cheaply here for many years. They do the basic stuff perfectly well.

Thanks for the info. I don't mind losing the Mute function, as long as the other functions work. I guess for $22, I could buy it and see. I can always buy the Modifry DCI if I'm not happy with the ASWC-1.

FYI many (most?) generic headunit adapter harnesses don't have the s2000-specific dash switch and mute wires (can't speak
for those supplied by Crutchfield, however). If it doesn't, there's likely an unused pin/wire in the connector which can be moved to
the proper location by using a tiny jeweler's screwdriver to release it.

speaking from experience, I have the Metra version, while a friend has the Modifry unit. The modifry one is good, and has lots more features, but if you are looking for something to just get the job done, the Metra will do just fine. I'm surrpised they are offering it for $22 thru Crutchfield. When I ordered my Pioneer headunit last year, they included the wiring harness and Metra unit for an extra $5. a deal too good to pass up. Only function I have lost is the Mute function, but from what I think I read on the Metra instructions, you can get Mute to work, you just need to wire in a relay for it. Which I have not done because I wanted to install my unit in less than an hour.

I just called Metra and spoke to a Tech there, believe his name was Jake, he said that the Metra (Axxess) ASWC-1 will mute in the S2000, but has to tap the mute button twice to work (although he said that it does not work on the JVC units)

Here is an update on the Metra ASWC-1 and the S2000 (https://www.s2ki.com/forums/s2000-el...s2000-1180536/)

Having just installed the Modifry DCI, I love the functionality. I've even got used to using the two button commands and barely open my radio now. Worth the extra money IMO.

I also enjoy the functionality of Modifry with my Sony HU. I only open my radio door now if I decide to use a CD. Everything streams from my Note4 and dash controls. Worth every penny.
