Navigation Charger.

i got a Pioneer Portable Navagation and i bought the Modifry bracket from www.modifry.com
but the only thing is the the charging wire have to go all the way back to the socket from the back of my arm, and my right hand will allways touch the wire, makes me uncomfortable to shift..
so anyone know if i cut the head of the charger and wire it into the battery or fuse, will that work?? or how to?
any answers will be really apreciated..
THANKS
Leo

As long as the charger wire is 12volts in and 12volts out the all you need to do is determine witch wire is the ground. Once you know that, then just cut the plug off the end and hard wire it to a spare fuse in the fuse panel. Hint: The hot wire is always the one that is connected to the tip of the charger. Open the adapter up and you will see where the wires go. The one connected to the side posts are the ground wires.

Good luck

Here's mine, routed behind the dash bezel just as modifry's mount. I wired a 12v outlet behind the dash where the panel pops out by the passenger's feet. No hacking into the very expensive FM traffic antenna, and I get perfect reception...

Although I wish the wire loop at the bottom was not visible, it's far better than having it drape down across the gearshift, etc. If only Hirose (HRS) made an 'L' shaped plug adapter, and I could have the plug go straight back and disappear... Oh well.

Hi, can you give us more DIY info in running the wires, so I don't have to plug the power to the socket. I just bought Modify's bracket, nuvi balls and the Garmin Nuvi 660. Also, your bracket is leather cover??? Never seen this before!

I wrapped it in leather to match the rest of my interior, turned out pretty well. :)

As far as the DIY goes, pretty straight-forward:

I bought a 12v cigarette lighter socket kit from Radio Shack.

I then pulled the dash panel underneath the passengers air bag (and, of course, broke a tab off of it in the process of doing so... :banghead:)

Then ziptied the socket to a metal tab that is right behind that panel.

I then wired the red wire to the fuse box 'ignition on' lug, and ran the black ground wire to a grounded bolt underneath the dash where about 8-10 different OEM wires are already grounded.

Finally, I plugged the charger into the 12v socket I had just installed, and ran the power cord over the radio, and fished it up to the right of the instrument panel, where I had attached Modifry's mount. I ran the wire just above his mount, behind his bracket, and plugged it in so all you see is a little bit of the wire loop below. (The wire is about a foot or so too long, so I folded the excess behind the dash and ziptied it out of the way.)

I then put everything back that I had removed and - Voila! Done.

I did a similar thing, except I installed 2 extra 12v outlets - one under the dash mounted to the A/C / Heater diffuser under the steering column and the other on the right side of the center consol (i.e. where the passenger's left knee whould rest ) for my wife's cell phone charger ...... I also used Modifry's 3" bracket, but when I mounted my Nuvi 660 on the bracket using the Nuvi Ball, the bracket becomes a "slinky" ......I think 1) I need a heavier gauge of metal; 2) I need to install a support bracket to the Modify bracket ..... or 3) I installed the bracket incorrectly ...... any ideas?
