OEM Alarm + aftermarket stereo for '98 civic

Any of you electronic gurus know anything about the OEM alarm for the '98 civic?

Situation: I helped my friend install an aftermarket deck into his '98 civic and somehow his factory alarm now refuses to work. After some searching on the net, I found out that somehow the OEM alarm is tied into the deck and by removing it, this caused the alarm to stop working.

Would any of you guys know of a way to get around this so that my friend can retain his alarm with the new head unit?

Thanks in advance for any insight or assistance that anyone can provide.

The OEM deck does control the factory alarm/keyless entry system. This is an easy fix. Go to your local car audio store and pick-up a conversion wire harness made specifically for 96+ civics. This plug and play harness goes into the vehicle's stock wiring harness and allows you to retain the alarm/keyless entry system while adding an aftermarket stereo. In order for this to work, you must retain the OEM stereo in the vehicle, placing it behind the aftermarket deck, in the recesses of the dash. You should be able to find this harness relatively easily, even Good Guys and Circuit City tend to carry these harnesses. The cost anywhere from $15-25. Hope this helps. Good Luck!
