Radar Detectors

Hi everyone, I'm almost sure all of your have considered or at least heard of Radar Detectors.

From what I've heard from my friends is that the Valentine One is by far one of the Top radar detectors out there.

If anyone on this website has this detector, or have had any experience with any other radar detector, please input on your thoughts of effectiveness, price, etc.

Also if you do have a radar detector, if you could please post a picture or describe the location of the mount for radar detector in the s2000.

thanks for looking,

The V1 is a good choice, especially if you are new to detectors. I've been using detectors since the days of the Fuzz Buster, and for me it is more important to minimize false alarms than it is to have aids (arrows) to help me locate RADAR, because I generally don't have any trouble identifying and locating sources. My biggest problem is becoming oblivious to the alarms due to too many false alarms, so I went for an Escort 9500i. Not quite as sensitive as the V1, but more than sensitive enough for reliable detection, and virtually no false alarms.

firm V1 believer, each car in my family has one too. Their service is the best too, if you send one back they do upgrades and fix anything as well.

V1 mounted high on the left side of the rear view mirror.

I've got an 8500x50 but it falses when I accelerated to quickly and goes into laser which I hate. I may upgrade to the new escort or try the v1.

Escort 8500 x50 is what I use.

The main difference is the ability to log locations using the GPS function featured on the 9500. This is good if you have a situation like me, where I drive 40 miles on the highway every day. On my route there are 3 bridges that give off an Xband alert. I could log these locations and the 9500 wont go off when it detects that its in the area. It will only go off to that frequency, but there is always a chance that a cop can be using xband.

Sensitivities are the same on the 8500 and the 9500 from what I have read. As stated the V1 has a little bit longer range, but gives off more false alarms.

I like the Expert Mode function on the Escort detectors as well. This shows multiple strengths from the same band. Going back to the bridge situation, if there is a cop clocking by one of the three bridges, the police intensity will normally come first. I could then confirm that its a cop by viewing more than normal xbands once I get in range of the bridge.

For the V1 I do like the arrow feature. The mount on the V1 is also better than the X50. The x50 bracket rattles really bad up against the windshield. I have also gone through 2 cigarette lighter adapters on the s2000, but it is most likely because of the horrible mounting location in the S. A simple hardware using a telephone wire will fix that though.

There is a fix. You just send it into Escort and they will fix it for free if its under warranty. Also if you don't want to send it in just go into the menu (by holding the top two buttons on the radar detector), scrolling through the menu and finding the Bands screen. You can disable the Laser portion if you wish.

Laser is detected only when its being pointed very close to your car. You normally dont have a chance to slow down, or detect it until its on you.

I have an escort S02 wireless, love it.

All it has to do is save you one time, and it pays for itself!

I have a question for all your V1 owners: Does it really matter if you know which way the radar source is coming from? Aren't you going to slow down regardless? Just never made sense to me.

The reason it is good is if you are trying to see where the radar is coming from. It will let you know when you pass the cop.
