noticed that the stereo is not really all that great...researched and found that it is really ready for two more rear speakers or headrest speakers...
1. how much power output is the stereo per channel? how many channels?
2. preference and experience...photos can help too.
3. lucid rear panel speakers, stock headrest speakers, alternatives?????
4. hope what you relay is appropriate to 04 model as well as whatever year you have?
5. no, do not want to change the main unit or install an amp just yet. thanks
In all Pre-'04 years our stock stereo is really an Accord unit but with only 2 speaker outputs being used. I would imagine you have the same setup in the '04, my only question would be that since they have started offering the headrest speakers I wonder if they have included the 2 other speaker leads out of the stock harness. Maybe they even have wires toward the back of the cabin in hopes that people will buy what has sounded like so far as a VERY expensive upgrade for rear sound.
Take a look at this It specifically applies to '03's and earlier but I feel like it will probably be very similar if not the same for your '04. Take your head unit out and see if the harness looks like my before pictures or my after pictures, it will answer the question for everyone.
Adding just 2 more speakers to the stock stereo does MAJOR WONDERS to it's sound output (IMHO) and you can either add them as I (and many) have done or go with the S-Pod solution. S-Pods are generally acclaimed to produce very nice sound and look great, but (no offense) are a bit expensive (quality costs!) I'm very happy with the additional fill that the addition of the 2 speakers behind the seat affords. Do a search, there's ton's of info in here about all this.
I'm beginning to shop around for audio components to lightly upgrade the sound system in my '00 S2000. The owner of a local audio shop let me listen to the sound systme he had in his own S2000. He had installed rear speakers, but said there was not a noticable difference in imaging. He could turn these off, and once off there was not a whole lot of difference. Give a little more base in the cabin, but because they are behind the seat did not do much for the poor imaging of the S2000, well at lest the '00 modle without door tweeters.
Did he have upgraded speakers and/or and amp for the fronts and was he still using the stock radio?
This may all boil down to personal preference, and I have read that there were upgrades to the later model radios as well as the addition of the tweeters, but if I fade my speakers all the way back to the front there's a very noticable difference?!
The S-pods were the first upgrade I made to my stock MY02 set-up. I can tell you that this change alone increased the volume to the level that I could hear the highs at 80 mph with the top down! After upgrading the fronts, the HU, and adding an amp and a sub, the sound is awesome!
I know that they were designed for the 03 and earlier models, but I don't think there has been any change to the roll hoop on the 04 model. Therefore, I'm sure they will fit, but you can PM Marks2002 to make sure.
Here's a couple of pics so you'll know what everyone is talking about.
Just wondering, what do the S-Pods look like from the rear?
Also who can you purchase the S-Pods from or is it something custom made? I can see how that would make a difference over mounting the rear speakers in the panels behind the seat. Also what is the maximum speaker size that will fit in the S-Pod?
what excellent stuff, thanks to all of you...i am leaning towards one of the setups offered by lucid...if anyone has another idea, or anything to add/experience with the setups... please post it...
i want just a little more sound, this is a car, and i love the noises it makes, but when i just want music it is a challenge now for the stock setup..finding that fading the sound to the front speakers helps also...but i think adding rears is a good thing.
i think i will pass on the s pods, they looks stock and perfect, it is not the money, i think the hoops are better left alone, don't want sound just behind my head either...but they look the best by far and would probably offer the best sound (loudness)...i welcome any other thoughts...i found out about lucid from this forum...thanks
