Default Single Din Flip Screen.... A REAL CHALLENGE

Hey guys. Have in my hands, a Kenwood KVT910-DVD single din headunit with a 6.5 inch retractable screen. Now i know that there is no way in hell that i'm going to be able to fit this in the quaint little space where the stock radio lives, but i've already decided to mount it in the center dash between the A/C controls and the passenger SRS.

Now, before i start cutting, molding, stitching, bleeding, and undoubtedly sweating my balls off in case i f*cK up, i wanted to know if anyone knew what lies behind that center dash besides foam? There are no air vents to worry about, but i'm concerned about a nice piece of the frame getting in my way or whanot. Do you think there will be enough room for me to fit the unit in before i hit something? If ANYONE has experience doing this, or have seen something like this done before, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!!

I'm not too worried yet, as the JDM S2000's have a navi screen there. So there's bound to be enough room for at least a screen - but a headunit?... that is my question.

Hope someone can help me here. Cheers

Brian

Well...

Judging by that, I don't think you should have any problems with clearance..

I wish that were my install, I am still debating on whether to do that or not. That is off another board member's car.

So that is shaners car.. I always wondered who's it was... I like how it fills the void in that spot. Now if I can figure out how to mold fiberglass..

BTW, how much was the whole package, DVD and the navi system?

Brian,

You will have to heat and remold some of the ventilation duct-work in the dash. A DIN chassis barely fits if you fabricate a custom "cage" and mount that hold the stereo a bit outside the dash like in my install. You are definitely best off removing the dash.

Mike's monitor install only required the first few inches of the dash but with the DIN chassis you are going all the way in and will run into ducts. It is a pain removing the dash the first time... but is much easier subsequent times. Also, if you mess up the dash, a new on is only $340 away...

Good luck!
