i went to look at a honda s2000 and its going for a really good price due to a bad motor. Went to look at the car and know nothing of this platform. It is an ap1 so im guessing it is the f20 series. The motor had some knoking and i want to know
1. Can i just rebuild the motor and be fine?
2. Or do i have to buy a completely new motor?

 

Depends what is wrong with it, at least it is running.

What do you consider a good price for a S2000 with a bad engine? $4000?

Considering you will invest at least that in a good used long block and install, I suppose it would depend on the rest of the condition of the car and how many miles are on it. The buyer that knows what he is doing could make out pretty great considering a bad engine is a hard sell/not in the sellers favor.
