Hondata Flashpro Bluetooth Version - Benefits?
What benefits does the bluetooth version provide over the non-bluetooth version? From what I can tell from Hondata's website, it appears that the bluetooth function is the same as my $15 bluetooth OBDII reader that connects to my phone with the Torque app. Are there any benefits to it?
One drawback of the cheap OBDII reader I have is I cannot leave it on the car or it will slowly drain the battery. |
I've not used a OBD2 reader just the FlashPro and the FlashPro app for my iPhone and iPad. Lots of data and displays. Seems a shame to keep my FlashPro in the box and not use it other than putting the tune in the car. But it's a lot clunkier than something as small as a little reader. Not sure what power FlashPro draws with the ignition off. My Valentine1 was connected to the OBD2 port and never seemed to draw down the battery.
The OBD2 port is so hard to get at in my car I have a 2-foot extension cable for it that I tuck up under the dashboard. -- Chuck |
@Chuck S The torque app has lots of data and displays too, I'm guessing it's nearly the same as the hondata app unless someone chimes in and states otherwise. The OBDII reader draws power from the port for the bluetooth connection. I'm not sure how much, but there is consistent power draw.
That extension cable is a good idea, I hate going under the dash to find mine. (EDIT looks like there are some OBDII readers that are designed to cut bluetooth draw when the car is shut off: ) |
Looks very interesting but isn't supported my my iPhone or iPad. :( . Here's the cable but with this little reader it could very easily just stay in place and tuck the FlashPro back in the box.
