Default Mugen ECU and Knock Sensor and Octane

I'm currently planning on installing the Mugen ECU on my AP1, with Mugen intake, headers, exhaust and cooling bits.

I understand that the ECU does not use the knock sensor to retard the ignition. I'm told that the car runs fine on 93 octane. But I'm in California where 91 is the highest I can get. I've got one guy who I trust who says he has run his car with Mugen ECU using 91 in California with no issue. But, I've heard the worst pinging is the pinging you can't hear. So I want to test it.

Here are my questions:
(1) Is there a way to monitor the knock sensor while driving? Using some laptop hook up? Using some OBD scanner?
(2) Am I going to need to know some Honda algorithm on what it does with the knock sensor to know if the car is doing something that would have resulted in retarding the timing?
(3) Is there an equation for adding 100 octane to 91 octane to know what ratio is needed to boost it up to 93?

For now, I am focusing on the Mugen direction. I know there are other ECU options.

Thanks!
Jay
