Cool, looks like I started a new trend.

Yes, the 2mm will drop it to about 10:1. Which is cheaper and best for all you S/C guys looking to up the boost or mediumly turbo'ed s2k's.

You're welcome btw

How does the whole gasket thing work? I was told if you put a 3mm you lower your compression. But wouldn`t you lose HP like that if you didn`t go with FI? Also if you do lose HP and you add FI how does the 3mm Gasket make your motor safer if your gunna boost the compression back up anyway?...I am asking because I am in the martek for a SC and I want it to be nice and safe if I decide to upgrade to a better pully

I think you may lose about 20 hp and maybe 10 ft lb of torque by lowering compression to 10:1 with the 2mm. But you will be able to add a lot more boost to compensate for that loss. Just by adding 2 psi more of boost you will get the #'s back you lost and then some. And being that on average, you can get about 15 hp for every psi added. So, with that said, you can expect around 440 crank hp at about 15 psi of boost on pump gas. If you didn't lower compression, boost is limited (to be safe for daily use on pump gas) to around 8 or 9 psi max. This is with turbo by the way. Superchargers on the other hand are linear, you can get away with a little more boost on 11:1 compression.

A couple of question then. How much boost can I run with a 2mm gasket? What hp numbers can I achieve? I'm talking about pump gas 92 octane. Can the stock internals take more boost with the 2mm gasket or am I going to run into reliability issues? Thanks a bunch!

I bought my 2mm on or before November 22, 2004 and I had it on or before November 24. Just out of curiosity, had anybody ordered one before me? Kane.s2k?

It's installed right now, but waiting on a new manifold to be built and for me to get back into town. Hopefully, I'll be running and tuned by the end of the month. I need to install AEM Pro on my new work computer and transfer my maps over. I was using my old work computer and then had to return it- my personal has no serial port and I've had no luck with adapters.

I just want to share with you my calculated compression ratios. I am assuming that the OEM/Factory head gasket is .030" .762mm thick.

Based on a 87mm bore and the .074" 1.88mm and the .120" 3.048mm Cometic gasket mentioned here.

The compression ratio for the 1.88mm went down to 9.83:1 from 11:1

The compression ratio for the 3.048mm went down to 8.86:1 from 11:1.

Keep in mind the quench areas are not as efficient giving it a slightly higher realized compression ratios for detonation resistance.

So 10 psi would be considered "safe" with the 2mm and a good EMS tune?

Are more people running the cometic gasket?
