Default 6262 Journal bearing and ball bearing

Guys,

Back in 2010 i bought a brand new 6262 journal bearing and had to be rebuild twice in the same year, problem were the same both times ( blown seals - smoke by the turbo) every time it was sent back to precision to get rebuild, each time it lasted 2k miles ( 6 months, I don't drive or push the car much ), one of those time with 1 session of dyno time by MASE. Precision always gave some stupid excuse, cold shutdown signs, not enough oil, too much oil, low oil return line. So we tough it was the LOVE-Fab mini me manifold, RAW racing build me a top notch manifold, down pipe, dump tube. The same turbo went out 1k miles later ( late 2011 - 7 - 9 months ), with the same issues ( seals ) i sent the turbo back to them for a third time, even had Andres @ RAW talk to them and they try BS him around.

After that, we decided to get a brand new 6262 dual ballbearing from precision them self's and I accepted a miserable $300 credit toward the $1400 "retail" price they charged me for that turbo.

Everything were fine til 2 weeks ago, when i heard a grinding noise ( similar to when you drag a steal pipe on the ground ) while the car were Idling and it went away after 10 minutes, drove the car 3 more times after that, today i drove the car again and notice the noise is crazy loud, took the car to the mechanic and he confirmed is the turbo again, ( you can hear the bearing grinding while reeving the engine )

Most likely Precision will offer partial or full warranty, but then what?

What do you guy think, anybody had this many issues with this turbos?

I have a Garrett gt35r and I would never let it go unless it was for the new gtx35r

That's freaking weird. I have a 6262 journal bearing for more than a year now and still runs flawless. maybe the way your turbo set up is wrong (oil feeding and oil return line) and it looks like the issue is having an oil starvation on the turbo.. just my 2 cent.

bobbyrandolph440 : Precision them self sent me the oil restrictor

bobbyrandolph440: i had a gt35r, excellent turbo, but i hate to deal with the stupid coolant lines, they leak all the damn time.

S2000 Cabrio : deff not, my manifold allow me to have stock oil filter. No need to use oil relocation kit.

Shaft play + bad bearing, surprising rear seal is still good, zero smoking.

What size are you oil feed/return lines? What size restrictor are you using, currently?

I'm sorry that happened to you that sucks.

I agree that Garrett is more reliable and in your case I would get a GT or GTX3582R. For 600hp it's a great turbo and will solve your reliability problems. Please note that the Garrett unit will require a restrictor.
Yes, i have -10 return , -3 feed. i want Garrett but that will means re-tune again and deal with coolant lines, ( which i hate )
Taking the turbo off the car today and sending it back to precision.
