Act Pressure Plate

Hello all...

I'm running an ACT street disk with there heavy duty pressure plate right now with about 2000 miles on it. Im at 500whp right now and my clutch wont hold it. It will slip in 3rd while in WOT. Im needing to upgrade it to a 6 puck but I'm not sure if i need to change my ACT pressure plate or not. With it slipping it may have got some heat spots in the plate but im not to sure. It would save me $100's if i didnt havr to buy another plate and just buy the 6 puck. I just dont know what to do...?? DO I have to change my plate when i put in the 6 puck?

I dont think you need a new pressure plate. Sounds like your full face disc is glazed. Funny I am at 370ft lbs torque and mine is holding fine with the oem disc and the 11.5lb flywheeel. Anyway, I would just get a 6 puck disc and resurface the flywheel. Hopefully its at least an ap1 flywheel!

However, be prepaired for poor driveabilty with a puck clutch! I had one at could not stand it.

Its still an AP2 flywheel. If I dont have to change the pressure plate then im just going by the puck and a light weight fly wheel.

Hows the driving with a 6 puck? whats so bad about it?

Chatter! piss poor 1st gear engagement. Grabs like crazy and fast shifting is hard on the driveline. Once rolling its ok but if you value smooth engagement then this clutch is a pig! Forget tossing your keys to significant other or any friends because they will not be able to drive the car.

Is there another disk I can use with my ACT pressure plate that would work? And for tossing my keys to anyone.... Noone drives my car. lol

You may want to try a dual friction disk. F1 racing and centerforce both have them. Get the grip of the puck with the smoothness of the full face. You will not like a strait puck. I pulled my competition puck pretty quickly. There super strong but the driveability is horrible.

Centerforce makes a good clutch, they are just not that popular with the s2k community. Honestly I think that heavy ap2 flywheel caused you some problems. There are a few people running the ACT clutch with more power than you with no issues. I would recommend the 11lb flywheel from competition clutch. Drives just like oem IMO. Its light and with the ACT or OEM full face disc you should be good to go at 500whp.

I would hate to do the pain in the butt clutch change with the same street disk and it still slip. But I would also hate to put in a 6 puck and hate it.... what to do what to do....

Believe me I had the 6 puck clutch and pulled it out fast. It depends how often you drive car. It got to the point I hated driving the car with the puck clutch. Some people think its ok but honestly its a pig. Its your choice, but whatever you do get rid of that AP2 flywheel.
