Default AEM 1052 VS. 1012

This Fall I'll be doing a lot of work on my car (swap out engine with my spare, install Hypertune intake manifold, update water injection, etc.) and I'm thinking of replacing my AEM 1012 with the newer model (1052). Does anyone have experience with both units? Is there anything to be gained by this? Does the 1052 come with a USB port instead of serial?

The 1052 unit is little smaller, but it still retains the serial port I think the only advantage over the 1012 is the built in wideband feature.

That's the 1052U. The 1052 is suppose to be a bit faster at processing and also start up. My car started 1st crank every time without fail where as with th 1012 even with the cam pickup resistor fix it still took a good 5 cranks.

i heard with the hypertune intake manifold, the hood doesn't close. did you do any modification to the hood? or at least tested if it fits?

Let's stay on subject, but to answer your question, the hood closes fine with their throttlebody. They have also fixed the problem with the stock throttlebody so the hood closes.

How come when I start up the version 1.19 software it asks me to select whether I'm using an ECU with a usb or serial connection?

Maybe that is referring to the port on the laptop (or carputer or whatever PC device the AEM software is running on). A lot of new laptops don't come with serial ports anymore, just USB ports.

The USB option is for future ECUs which will have USB instead of serial communication. You should keep this option to serial with any current AEM EMS model. The USB AEM EMS don't exist yet

If u mount your EMS behind the kick panel (as I do), the 1052 is a better option, since it is quite a bit smaller and does not force the kick panel to protrude out as much over the dead pedal.
