Default is ball bearing really worth the extra cost over journal

Whats up guys, so im going turbo once again but this time with a more serious setup. Going with either Full blowns new stage 2 bolt on or Pfabs ff manifold kit. By the looks of it and prices i think im leaning more towards pfabs kit, but i cant decide which turbo to get on either kit. So, im comparing the 6262 journal, 6262 ball bearing and the gt35r. Lets start with the 6262 journal, its the cheapest of the three so i like that, but im worried about performance, im worried i might regret not going with a ball bearing. Now for the 6262 ball bearing , i know its a awsome turbo, also love how the 6262s dont require you run coolant to them, as im quite scared on running coolant to a turbo. Ive never done this and would not like to do any kind of drilling into or modding the car for this. but the price of the 6262 ball bearing is a bit above my budget, now finally for gt35r, so its ball bearing, and the price is in the range of my budget, but worried that running coolant to it is going to be a hassle. So what do you guys think? what route should i go? need some opinions.

Note im looking to make 450+ whp with these setups with a nice power curve , not just up top. most likely running stock exhaust for now, unless some how i get the funds for a 3inch exhaust by the time i get the kit.

Thank guys!

On these forum, you're going to get a lot of "Stay away from Precision, they're junk answers", just to warn you. Ball bearing doesn't affect spool time much but more the transient re-spool between shifts and on off the throttle. I'd say it is worth it and for your goal, I'd get a smaller turbo.

I don't know much about precision turbos

I used to run an old school GT35R on my car, it was pretty laggy IMO. Last year I switched to a GTX3576R an it made a huge difference. I think it spools around 1000rpm sooner, and makes a lot more torque

Here's a dyno graph of my 2 setups, torque curve only (GT3582R .82 A/R vs GTX3576R 1.06 A/R)

GTX turbo is worth the upgrade IMHO, but pricey $$$

If I were to run an older GT series, I would probably go with a GT3076 for quicker spool

Yes precision is junk and just save for a Garrett gtx3576r or a gtx3582r.

I agree just wait and save for a gtx. Precision make good power and I like them but my 6262 jb leaks oil were compressor hosing bolts to center section. I wish I just waited longer and got a gtx3582r

I have a precision 6165 ball bearing turbo on. I will update after I drive it for a while. Hoping it last a long time.

If you're trying to save money, I'd look into a Borg Warner Airwerks turbo. Perform just as good at Garrett or Precision, no coolant lines (unless you get an EFR) and cheaper than Garrett. When I was pricing kits, Pfabs new FF manifold was one of them and I know Pang will make your kit with a Borg if you inquire about it. He quoted mine with a 7670 EFR and non-EFR. I've owned Garrett, Precision, and Turbonetics, I'll never rec the later to anyone. The precision was a 5858 and honestly performed really well but my current GTX blows it away.

gtx3582r

Would people say this is the best "all around" turbo for the F20/22c then?

Everyone has their opions on turbos. However, we at jjautowerks and Stage 6 Motorsports only run Pt turbos and have never had the problem. I personally have been running them for 3-4 years in my s2k.

I have a new gt35r ar 0.63 and I'm fully spooled by 5100 at 20 psi. From my research a gtx version only spools a few 100 rpm earlier and yields 15 bhp (at fly) through the Rev range. A 6262 is a good turbo and isn't much in it really between that and a gt35r, roller bearing technically spool earlier for me I don't want to pull the turbo off down the line so garret all the way.

Since I had a few problems with my car I decided £600 to 700 isn't worth it for a gtx vs a gt35r.

A water cooled turbo will last longer providing it siphons properly to with one port being higher.

UK figures here ours are always lower but I made 460whp at 20 psi on stick block.
