Yes but that is sealing them from outside of the block in which still leaves a hole in the exhaust port. I'm suggesting the idea of filling the hole from inside the exhaust port so that the exhaust ports have a smooth path without any half plugged holes to cause an obstruction.
The ports would be VERY hard to get to, it may be possible with the valves out but I would not bet on it.

I just sunk the allens as deep as I could get them.

If you don't like the little air port get the later heads without the additional machining.

It does not appear to have any impact in the current location.

Hi, I know this thread is old but I was hoping you could help me out w/ some advice; I saw your post about tapping & blocking off air pump ports in an AP1 head, when you couldn't find a 2006 cyl head...

I have a 2006 S2K & a machine shop ruined my head & I now need a new one. I can only find AP1 heads for sale & I know the AP1 head has ports for the Secondary Air Injection (air pump) system & that the 2006+ heads don't have. I was hoping you might have the knowledge to help me out about how to make an AP1 head work with a 2006+ AP2 block.

What I'd like to know:

- In general what do I need to do to make this work & are there any down sides/issues?

- Is the 2006 OEM valvetrain (valves/springs/retainers/cams/cam towers/keepers/rocker arm assembly/valve guides) all interchangeable/plug & play into an AP1 head? How about the hoses & engine wiring harness?

- Can I still use my 2006 intake & exhaust manifold + the OEM gaskets/head gasket/head bolts/timing chain pulley w/ the AP1 head? Will the DBW throttle body still work w/ the AP1 head?

- Do I have to seal the air pump ports on the AP1 head & whats the best/easiest way? Another member said nothing needs to welded & that my 2006 intake manifold will block off everything, but aren't there some ports/holes/openings on the exhaust side of the head? I'm confused as to what extra holes/ports an AP1 head has that my 2006 head doesn't & what all needs to be plugged & how to go about doing so. Without seeing pics of all the air pump ports in an AP1 head that need to be plugged makes it even harder to understand.

Any advice/guidance you can offer would be really helpful & be greatly appreciated. Also, do you have any tips on how/where to find an AP1 or AP2 head, other than the forum marketplace & ebay? Are there any shops or companies that sell heads?

Thanks so much for your time & help.
