Change oil viscosity?

The previous owner ran 10w40 non synthetic. I would like to run 10w30 full synthetic for the cold months, switch to 10w40 full synthetic in the spring. Any thoughts?

I'm on 5w40 all year long but it's basically the same weather all year round here in socal.

It was 18 degrees here yesterday.... lol

10W30 synthetic year round should be good.

From the exceedingly rare and little known or read Honda document (AKA the owner's manual):

An oil with a viscosity of 10W-30 is
preferred for optimum fuel economy
and year-round protection in your
vehicle. You may use 5W-40 oil if the
temperature in your area goes below
0°F ( 20°C).
I don't see any reason, though, to not run 5W-40 or 5W-30 all the time.

Why not use a 0/40 all year round? Good cold temp oil flow and delivers great protection when the oil is hot.

I’ve been using the shell rotella t6 and am really liking it. It’s made for turbo diesels so holds up really well in my turbo S. I’m down in Texas so am good with the 5w40 all year long.

Thanks for all the replys. I guess i was concerned about 2 things, that being:

with the turbo + extra heat, i should be running 10w40 not 10w30

and

will introducing synthetic oil create odd problems like oil leaks from gaskets that didn't leak before. Ive heard of this happening to other cars...

Thanks,

matt
