Default clutch with S/C

im about the S/C my car and i have been searching around and i have found 2 opposite opinions as wether or not to replace the clutch before or after the S/C install. People have also said the S/C does not need to be removed for the clutch install while most say it DOES have to be removed. i have almost 30k on the car and the clutch feels fine. I would rather wait untill the stock clutch goes just so i dont have the drop the $$ right now, but if im going to have to pay a huge difference in labor time with the S/C on right now i figure its worth it. let me know what you guys think. thanks.

There are lots of opinions on this. Check out this link:

Vortech seems pretty sure about this to put it on page 2 of the install manual.

Swap it before and it's less work to get the trans out with the SC not installed. Both SC units can be left installed, but you will be resting the SC housing on the engine compartment crossmember when the subframe is lowered to remove the trans.

I just did this...did my clutch install first (hardtopguy package) then did the SC. Definitely recommend doing it this way...much simpler, you can move right from the clutch work to the SC easily. If I'd had the SC in first, it could easily have added a lot of hours to the job...

I too have been debating about replacing the clutch before the supercharger.

It adds two hours of labor if you decide to replace the clutch AFTER the supercharger is install.

Somehow I feel guilty about replacing a perfectly working clutch.

Many AP1 users mentioned that they waited until the clutch die, some with good results others with not so good ones. Unfortunately all the AP2 users post that I see have not good results. Perhaps the delay valve on the master cylinder has something to do with this ?

If money is not an object replacing the clutch makes sense but when you are in a budget it sure makes you consider it

I removed the slave cylinder delay valve early. Even with this, I could occasionally get the clutch to slip - albeit slightly - if it was a good WOT shift. I figured even though I had a perfectly working clutch, if it was slipping now with the SC it would slip more. I don't regret doing the switch...and I'd suggest it is a bit more than 2 hours. Definitely understand the budget limitations, and a lot of folks have been ok with the stock clutch after going SC. I'd suggest that if you even *think* you are getting clutch slip now, then change out the clutch. Otherwise, take a gamble and stick with what you have as long as it is close to new/low mileage. Good luck!

I put my charger on at 13k miles and at 20k miles my clutch was slipping under boost, had to replace my clutch.I didn't abuse my car also....maybe some others with an ap2 can chime in.The delay valve on the ap2's might be the problem.I've heard alot of ap1 guys keeping the stock clutch after installing the S/C for awhile.

Peace
