Default Comptech SC - Running Lean.

Hey guys, a few of us over in the UK are organising a group buy on Comptech chargers.

Some of us have heard scare storys about using the stock SC setup with aftermarket exhausts / de-cats etc.

I know the best thing to do would be to get an aftermarked ECU on the car to control fueling etc. but in the UK there seems to be a lack of knowlegable tuners (the market is catering for rubbish French hatchbacks).

Just looking for a bit of advice from you.

I have a VAFC already, could this be used to tweak the AFR okay on the stock comptech setup?

Or is it defo, home fit and then hunt for a good ECU tuner?

Cheers.

vafc is more than enough to tune a stock system

Where would you draw the line using the VAFC? 5/7/9psi pulley?

It'd only be a temp measure until we can organise proper tuning in the UK.

7psi, i am at a 9psi pulley i have have seen around 11psi of boost at the max rpm. dont reccommend using the vafc anything over 7psi. hopefully i will get around 350whp or more while still on the vafc the next time i dyno it. the drawback to the vafc is that it will have spots in the powerband where it will sputter because it is getting confused btw the narrow throttle and wideopen throttle. but for the most part it is a pretty good tuning tool if the tuner is very familar with it.

Thanks lads .. helps me out big time.

Just need to know that I can tweak okay before having to fork out more dosh for a new ECU.

7psi will be fine for the time being, have to hunt for a 7psi pulley at a later date then.

If it helps at all, I'm running the kit without A/C on the stock (5.5psi) pulley and my plugs were golden brown after 10,000 VERY hard miles.

Also have test pipe. No piggyback or external fuel controller, the Comptech FPR works just fine.

Cool, it's all good to know. Don't want to spend all this time and effort getting the kit out to me to have a wallet raping *pop* 10 mins later.
