Diff options
What are the options for upgrading the Diff on the S. I will be boosted very soon and dont want to risk destroying my rear end.

Moving to FI, as your question is related.
Diff technics makes Nissan differential conversion. Comptech offers a reinforced stock housing. Rick's offers multiple gear options. |
I keep hearing about these nissan diff upgrades, but what about upgraded to a kaaz lsd, or a cusco? Would these be able to support the power from a turbo S?
|
^ the weak point of the stock diff is not the LSD. Upgrading the lsd will not prevent from breaking.

Having said that if you are gentle on the clutch and drivetrain there shouldn't be any problem with stock diff. My stock diff went through vortech sc at 7 then 14psi and sc to 16psi. It only had bearing and ratio upgrade. The gearbox and axle broke before the diff, only because I took it to the drag strip and had plan to replace these parts anyway. There are many pple on here with high boost sc and tc with the stock diff without any problem yet. You should turbo the s2k and enjoy the stock parts until they die. You will only need the diff upgrade if you intend to do repetitive drag racing. The nissan diff conversion is great though. Worry free and can withstand great fun/abusive driving. |

what did you break in the gearbox ? |
Not sure yet trip. My mechanic friend hasn't had the time to open it up yet. It's still collecting dust there since beginning of the year.
I bought a broken gearbox for ppg to do the gear upgrade. PPG could not make it in time for the drag so I had to take the stock box. The axle and gearbox broke at the same time. The car did not move. After the diff was upgraded, it can still drive in first gear but it sounds like a tractor. So we just replaced it with the other box. |
Our race proven Nissan conversion can run any of the aftermarket LSD's ie: Kaaz, O.S. Giken Cusco etc
Speed costs money how fast do you want to go ?? |

Speed costs money how fast do you want to go ?? Your conversion looks amazing, and for now it's probabl something I'm going to look into in the future. we can upgrade the lsd aswell, which is another plus. |
I'll let you all know how it works, as I have one on order with the OS Giken 1.5 LSD and, hopefully,a 4.3 gear ratio, if they can find one.

If the R200 4.375:1 crown wheel & pinion takes too long you can buy it directly from Nissan dealer Fred. It's $800AUD directly from Nissan Aus. It might be cheaper in the US.

actually they are about $480 for a 4.364 or a 4.636 Actually it can be fairly inexpensive to source the basic required parts in the us. So far I've picked up a R33 diff with a JDM s13 rear cover and R33 axles(for the inner CV joints) for less than $160. Just need to get the mounting kit and axles for the setup(which granted will be the most expensive components). My reason for starting the conversion is that it's nice to have a second 'bulletproof' set to go to. If by some chance the diff does break then I will still have my OEM setup to baby around in till I get it repaired. Plus the nissian gives you around 2x more fluid than OEM too. Should aid in diff cooling capabilities. |
whats everyones thoughts on the comptech rear end?

An R33 GTST diff coming from a auto tranny is a 4.3 where the manual version is a 4.1
i was lucky to find a 4.3 :) Identification can be found from the vin plate http://www.skylinegts.co.uk/Skyline_VIN_plate.htm |
