Thumbs up Differences in 02 AP1 engine vs 09 AP2 engine?

I've done a Comptech supercharger in my 05 Rio and I remember we used a Comptech black box to allow the ECU to work with the increased demands.

However this time around we have a 09 AP2 which uses the DBW technology and we want to install a Vortech supercharger from another 2002 car that is running the AEM EMS and 650cc injectors.

Are there any major or minor differences I need to be aware of in terms of the fuel rail or any other parts I may need?

My 09 GPW is completely stock engine wise right now and I'm hoping this Vortech aftercooled kit from the 2002 will be a smooth transplant.

this is what the 2002 car has on there right now:

• Vortech Supercharger
• Vortech Water Aftercooler
• AEM EMS ECU
• Frog Harness relocation cable
• Walbro Hi Flow Fuel Pump
• Hondata Intake Manifold “heat stop” Gasket
• C&R Aluminum Race Radiator
• AEM Fuel Pressure Regulator
• Payn "Plug and Play" mapping interface
• RC 650cc injectors

I know I need a new stronger clutch but any other issues or things you guys see with this type of swap?

thanks
rick

You will need:

- different injectors
- a bung for the IAT sensor
- different pulley if you want to run comparable boost to the AP1
- ditch the AEM and get a Flashpro

Sell:

- pressure regulator
- walbro
- mapping interface
- frog harness (whatever that is)
- Hondata intake gasket (these things are more pain than benefit)

Off the top of my head, I know you'll need Hondata FlashPro in place of the AEM. The radiators from those two MY also have different fan switches are not bolt on swaps.

Good point on the radiator. Someone makes an adaptor plug though.

Wow great info, so looks like those parts I don't need will be put up for sale....

Luckily I think the Hondata is less money I think

Where do I buy the adapter since I would love to use the polished radiator on my 09. I wonder if they make a different adapter that allows my stock 09 radiator to be fitted to the 02.

Try to get someone can make you a custom adapter for the switch. Shouldn't be too much. FP is definitely cheaper.

Do you know if the injectors are saturated? Didn't think there was any differences in injectors between all the MY's.

I doubt the injectors are saturated, the MY06+ are just bigger OD on the rail side ... The rail is completely different on the DBW cars.

^thanks fellas - why does honda always have to change things! grrr

ok so the injectors and fuel rail will have to go...another member told me with the new DBW system at least I don't need an upgraded fuel pump.

Looks like this will be a fun swap, will report back once its all in the car and running hopefully. This is one of the older Vortech systems so does not have the self lubricating setup but I heard it's actually preferred for some reason?

Its preferred because they dont die from oil starvation. A bunch of the self lube kits died

You do not need a new fuel rail! Just new injectors, I recommend ID725s.

The fuel pump should be fine up to ~350rwhp, otherwise you can ad a KB boost-a-pump
