E85 or not?
I was getting my car tuned for boost in Portland and the shop there was telling me that e85 was too unstable to tune in Portland and then me return to Rapid City, SD. Anyone have a clue why someone would say that? It seems like that's the way everyone's going that has that available in their area. I'm running the aeromotive 340 pump, 1000cc injectors, gtx3076r. What boost level could I run with it? Would I need to do anything else? Stock motor btw, and 4bar map.
Hmmmm, I didn't know that. How would I know what I was getting? It's kinda freaking retarded that they would have something like that possible. Why can't this country just stick with 93 and e85 and they both always be the same?
you won't know what you're getting. the reason they put less ethanol in the e85 blend for the winter is due to cold starts. the more ethanol in the blend the harder the cold starts in very cold weather.

it varies by state and time of year. check out this chart:

i stay in south florida and even though the chart mentions a spring/fall blend a few months out of the year, it's not necessarily so. i know because the shop has been testing it. you can test the fuel using something like this:

Get yourself an e85 tester online. It's a small test tube with marks. You add a small amount of water and then the rest e85. It will tell you the alcohol content. E85 is stable so not sure what the place is talking about. Yes there are winter blends typically e70 because ethanol is harder to start in the cold. I store mine in the winter by running 93 octane and let sit.
