This is where it sits on the IM which goes into that port in the upper right of the head which travels through the head and into that line that is cut out of the head pushing air into the exhaust for cat converter efficiencies.

its not a egr its a secondary air pump, that has the same purpose of a egr basically.
Air injection is used to light off the cat, EGR is used help reburn unburned fuel.

Wow some of the people on here

EGR MEANS exhaust gas recirculation..

There is no exhaust gas recirculation on these.

If your air pump is not hooked up you could take that metal cover off the head and there would be absolutely no change whatsoever in anything

Since I don't have my intake that is what I was trying to get you of everyone. I could not tell if the intake was open to this chamber or not.

You would have to leave the plate on or you would be blowing exhaust out of the ports I plugged in the head. Just to keep the head clean I am using both the block off plate and plate on the head.

It cost $1.62 with tax and now I wont need a gasket for the side cover or block off plate which had to be ordered and cost about $10. It took about 10 minutes with the head on the car, had I remembered before I put on the head it would have been quicker.

Thanks for the help

EGR has nothing to do with burning unburned fuel. It recirculates inert exhaust gas in order to lower combustion temps, which in turn, reduces Nox emissions.

10 year bump. This issue was never resolved/properly addressed. Assuming an S2k Is turbo charged/running standalone ecu. Is there a benefit into basically plugging up all the secondary air injection holes on the head? The small ones on the exhaust side and big one leading to the EGR LOOKING thing on the intake manifold side. Basically does this system add unneeded intake volume space(contributing to turbo lag as there is more space that needs to be filled). Also another major benefit is simply slicing off that chunk of aluminum where the EGR LOOKING thing sits, this will aid in getting to the back of the engine making it much easier to unbolt the 2 10mm bolts behind the head and bottom 12mm bolts that attach the intake manifold.

So went to take a look at the cylinder head. Even though the S2K doesnt have an egr there are benefits to plugging these Secondary air injectors shown. There are 4 total seondary air ports 1 on each exhaust side of each cylinder. Plugging these up will keep the ports from filling up with hot exhaust gas(especially if boosted). Also keeping these ports filled with hot gas heats up the aluminum cylinder head. So basically plugging these 4 ports is a simple mod that will keep some heat soak away from the cylinder head and enable the cutting off of the egr looking thing on the intake manifold which in turn frees up space to work on behind the engine by the firewall.

This is all the info you need for this:

Gasket, cover, and bolts circled in red can be thrown away after plugging the 4 bolts. Looks much cleaner
