The Profec is a bitch. You have to mess around with the numbers forever to get the correct amount of boost. I would have recommended controlling it off the EMS or get something like the Dual Stage Turbosmart one if you want high/low like O'neil said.

You're best off with the GM one. I remember how much trouble o'niel and eugene had with theirs every day. It's not worth the elevated blood pressures

Hmmm.... I installed this today and after two runs I was able to get the boost pressure dialed in. I am now boosting a consitent 7-7.1 psi with a boost spike to 7.5 psi, but the temperatures were pretty cold out tonight so maybe that's why? It doesn't seem too complicated to use, I kind of like it.

I'm using a Hallman Pro MBC in my EVO

getting the numbers to read constant really was not the problem. We got Alex's car dialed in too whereever we wanted. However the challenge was the efficiency and the gain to optimize the performance of the turbo. That is where you have some serious challenges and a manual controller provides some ease. If you are able to master that, then you are the man!

WEll, my problem was getting the thing dialed in. I did exactly as greddy said and my curve didnt make sense. It was more like a roller coaster curve.

would u care to share what the hell #'s you plugged into there? sounds to me you are running off the WG spring. I mean if u got consistent #'s so fast, maybe you should go work for Greddy as a profec consultant and I'll be your first costumer. |

I hear what you are saying, but how did you know that your boost curve was messed up? The car feels consistent, not like the boost is fluctuating when I go WOT. Off the wastegate spring I was running 6psi, almost 7 psi spike around redline, but now I am holding 7psi. Basically, I knew that my tune was for 6-7psi so I didn't want to go over that so what I did was set the START value pretty conservatively. This is the value where it will hold the wastegate totally shut until it hits that boost pressure, so if you set it too close to your SET boost pressure (your target boost) then you will boost higher then you want. So, I put the START boost to 4psi, and put the SET on 0 so it would just run off the wastegate spring, but it hit 7.8psi, NOT 6 like I thought it would. So, if you are a little too high, just lower your SET boost. I brought mine down to 3.4 and now it hits 7psi consistently. I haven't messed with the gain much yet, i'm assuming that this has to do with your boost curve the most, correct? I just placed it on 10 because I read that it was a conservative setting, but that info came from my350z.com. I'm going to read up more on setting the gain, and also where can I see my boost curve? With the Profec? The car feels like it pulls smoothly though, but I guess setting the gain will adjust the curve. O'neil, what is your target boost that you are trying to hit, 12psi daily?
My daily boost is 14 I don't remember what #'s I had but I know the set boost was the percentage of the WG spring pressure or so if I remember correctly. the gain they stated to that it was a number between 5-15. They said it would never be 5 or 15. To start at 10. I went through every single damn frigging stupid number and did not help. Start boost I set 2psi less. Could I have had a defective solenoid, maybe so, but I did not have the time or patience to fok w/ it. turning the know on the manual unit was just much easier and saved the veins on my forehead from popping. |
Ok, next time I see you I want you to take a ride in my car and tell me how it feels because maybe my boost curve is jacked up and I don't know it, but I think I would feel it, no? Also, if you only set the start boost 2psi less then you will probably overshoot 14psi.
