Engine upgrades for 650ish whp?
#11
Ok next question. Should I have the machine shop inspect the stock cylinder walls, pistons & rods first before I decide which route to go with the bottom end? I would prefer to leave it alone but I'm concerned about the condition given the block has 160k miles. Can't decide if I would recoat the stock FRM sleeves or have darton mid sleeves installed. Can you use stock pistons/rods with darton mid sleeves?

I have a Walbro 450 in the tank feeding a SOS surge tank with twin AEM 320's (all pumps wired with SOS kit), 8an feed line / 6an return line, 1200cc injectors, FBM large fuel rail, SOS flex fuel kit

Thats awesome to finish your friends build. Have you put in any thought to the drivetrain? S2000s trans amd diffs are weakest link. Stock motors have pushed 700hp with maybe headstuds. Not sure goals are for the car but 650hp will destroy the diff and trans in a drag car. If its just a high hp street car the trans might hold, but if its going to get beat on look into trans and diff upgrages.

Axles too at that level.
Might want to consider an IRS 8.8 or Camaro diff swap. I think the later 8.8 cradles are fixed, earlier ones had issues as they were not designed well.

Why are you recommending the 1700 over the 1300? Also, do they both support E85? It's a 2005. It does not have a fuel return system yet. Any recommendations?[/QUOTE]
A 2005 have fuel return system so your good their. I say 1700 over 1300 because it's better to have more fuel for your tuner to work with. Each set up is different. Some will get away with 1300 and 650 while other will fall short.
