Has anyone else been this dumb?

Was clocking my sandwich plate to make room for a new oil pressure sensor and I guess I over-torqued the 38mm banjo bolt. It didn't sheer off until I started the car and was letting it warm up (could have been worse and happened while driving). Totally my fault, but I'm surprised at how little thread engagement the banjo bolt has....there is about 3/4" of threads still left in the block.

It has happened before..... But in your defense, it doesn't look like there was enough thread length on the remote oil filter/cooler adapter bolt. So it doesn't look like the part was designed properly.

bro.....thats a QUICK way to trash a block. Did you use the longer threaded piece from the accord?

I agree!

Yea man, hoping I don't have to pull the motor (again). I don't know about the piece from an Accord. I'm having a local machine shop fab up a new longer threaded piece for me....it should be long enough to hit all the remaining threads in the block...fingers crossed!

90015-PH1-013 that's the part number...its like $5

You can likely make this all work again without replacing the block. You will want to have a custom stud made that is longer, and you might need to tap the hole if it is tapered (I do not think it is).

a machine shop will be able to do this for you.

That is the plan...having a shop modify the OEM oil cooler/oil filter bolt. They are cutting off bolt/flange and threading the unthreaded portion. This should end up long enough to engage all the threads left in the block

Got my custom bolt back from the shop...it should engage all the remaining threads left in the block

Nice save!

It could be the picture but that looks like an excessive amount of silicone on the front cover, I would be concerned if it were on the inside of the cover too...
