Why does everyone insist on getting a 3mm headgasket only? You lose power the more compression you drop as well as response, off boost torque, etc...not to mention getting a different thickness from cometic is about $200 less than the 3mm. Most people will never have to drop it to 9:1 for the power they're looking for with a standalone. A CR of 10:1 is more than enough for the power 91-93 octane will be able to allow and still be drivable in this car. Going with lets say a 2mm gasket from cometic, lovefab kit, great tunning, you can make 400whp on a dynojet no problem. With 400whp on this car, it just spins gears 1-4 anyways.

the 3mm gasket was the only one i was aware of. thanks for the heads up kane. actually i would still think 10:1 is a little high c/r for a boosted motor. would you be able to make up for the lack of compression with the 9:1 with a more aggressive timing map to get the same hp with less compression?
btw, i'm just speaking of general knowledge as far as the c/r is concerned. i don't have any experience with a boosted s2k, so you probably know more about the safety margin than i do.

There are a lot of smaller displacement motors out there with 400whp on 10:1 running pump gas day to day. Running lower compression isn't just for peak power. There's less energy overall in the system. The turbo spools up slower, throttle response gets lost, there's a noticable drop in torque before the turbo even spools. Of course, if you're using a V-AFC to tune the car, go with 9:1 by all means with 400whp. I'm talking strictly for the standalone people who have full control over timing and fuel. Use the timing to control safety since it's very adjustable.
You can order various thicknesses from cometic. I had a friend of mine buy a 2mm for $120 or a little more.

In my experience I feel that the stock compression will handle 9psi all day on pump gas and 12 psi on race gas.

There are no CARB approved turbo kits. To be CARB approved, it can't replace the stock PCM, or be user programmable. All the Greddy CARB approved turbo kits for other car use a locked E-manage for that reason.
