Loud Supercharger whine after 30mm belt upgrade on KW C38-81

Is this sound normal? I have a 08 S2K and my supercharger belt snapped a couple of weeks ago. I got the 30MM upgrade kit from Kraftwerks. Got it back today after installation and the supercharger whine was very very loud. Much louder than it was previously. The guys who installed it said bigger belts will make it louder...thoughts??

That's weird but anytime u change sometime there's always drawbacks. It's sounds pretty rough maybe u need to lube the belts and wear it in as it sounds like it's the plastic sticking to metal sound. Check for belt clearances I hope the belt isn't rubbing against anything

That sounds like a knackered bearing based on the audio. Are you sure the tension is set correctly?

All the pulleys and belts were just replaced..I will get the belt tension checked. I sent KW the video and they said the same thing..

I wonder if there wasn't something wrong in the first place which was the cause of that original bell to have snapped. Just saying.........

Yeah they said the bolts were very loose and some had to be replaced because the threads were bad..

Sounds like the bearings are toast to me. Id try taking a little tension off the belt and see if the sound goas away, if it does, it was probably too tight putting strain on the bearings, or could be too late and the bearings are toasted regardless of belt tension at this point. I'm not as familiar with the new cogged KW system, but I know there is supposed to be a proper/set tension and its pretty imperative this is correct. On a standard non cogged system, there is a range of tension that will work, as long as its not overly tight, which can still put strain on the bearings.

ok, quick update, I drove it around for a few more days, the belt noise has reduced 50% - 60%. There is still a whine and kettle boiling sort of noise. I took it back to the shop and they checked it and said the alignment and tension are perfect.
I assume that this is the sound of the 30MM belt. I talked to Kraftwerks as well and they said that the 30MM is louder. Does anyone on the forum have the experience of upgrading from 20mm to 30mm? If so was there an increase in noise?

thanks

ray

On a positive note, i'm not sure if its the placebo effect but it feels like is pulling harder in 2nd through 4th..:-)

That wouldn't have anything to do with the wider belt, since its cogged. No slipping before or after.
