They are both capable of a turbo. One key difference ECU choice when you do boost, AP1 + AP2v1 are throttle by cable AP2v2 and DBW. Can go down two different paths based on that.

I'd spend some time reading here:

I'm curious what you're gonna do with 350 - 450 whp. Other than tell everyone about it.

I would learn the intimate details of the car first then decide what is best, these cars do not need that much power to be fun.

Anyone who buys a car that is so far from what they really want that they have to increase the power by 50 to 100% is either a bloody idiot, or a would be poser.

Do try to grow up a bit.

early AP1's have the 2 hole banjo bolts and I wouldn't go FI unless its a later model AP1+. The change to 4 hole was mid cycle 2002.

that being said, i'd just get a 2001+ Zo6 if that's the power you're after.

some people like myself like fast cars and cannot afford cars that are already fast stock. My option is fast is a car that traps at least 125mph in the 1/4 mile. my opinions 450-500whp ina s2000 is perfect. And non boosted s2000 are very slow and are unbearable to drive. Of course this is just my opinion.

But it to answer the question both the ap1 and ap2 can make over 600whp on the stock engine with out much trouble. I have an ap1 making over 600whp but I wish I has the bigger f22c engine. The f22c with spool the turbo faster and generally always will make a little bit more power and tq. I always recommend to stay away from the 06+ s2000 due to the return less fuel system which really limits power. Ideally you want an 04-05 ap2.

Agreed.

As for the money argument...S2000 + turbo/SC is going to cost as much or more as a decent C5, maybe C5 Z06, maybe early C6 Corvette. That gives him the power he wants without totally changing the character of the car he's buying in the first place.

While there is ample evidence of S2000s surviving for a while with 400+ horsepower there's also ample evidence of guys losing control and totaling ordinary S2000s every week. The OEM car can be driven to points above the skills of drivers -- we don't have enough round-abouts in North America to blame this all on diesel spills like the guys in the UK! Super powerful cars are without doubt fun to drive. They can also be terrifying, just watch any of the "cars and coffee" exit videos where the morons spin their cars across lanes of traffic and into crowds.

The two Aussie lads who do Mighty Car Mods just built somewhat matching supercharged and turbocharged Miatas. Yeah they're not making 450 horsepower and the turbo is 10% more powerful but there are still useful comparisons. The turbo comes on like many expect VTEC Yo to happen, the supercharger power is linear.

Money will trump skill most of the time, that's why road and drag racing is handicapped into classes. There will always be a faster car on the street and the excuse that they're V8s still means you lose.

Yeah, I stopped chasing horsepower decades ago.
