S2000 Forced Induction S2000 Turbocharging and S2000 supercharging, for that extra kick.

Default New to S2000 & Turbo – Is 310–350 HP a Safe Goal?

Hi everyone,

I’m fairly new to the S2000 platform and also pretty new to turbocharging in general, so I’m trying to learn as much as I can before buying parts.

I’m thinking about turbocharging my S2000 and my goal is around 310–350 HP. I’m not trying to build a crazy high-power setup, just looking for a reliable increase in power for a street car.

A few questions I have:

1. Is 310–350 HP a safe and reliable range for a mostly stock engine?
2. What turbo kits or setups would you recommend for this power goal?
3. What supporting mods are necessary (injectors, fuel pump, clutch, cooling, etc.)?
4. Are there any major downsides to turbocharging an S2000 that I should be aware of (reliability, heat, maintenance, drivability)?

I’m still learning about this platform so any advice, build recommendations, or things I should watch out for would really help. Thanks!

You're gonna be hard pressed to do any sort of forced induction on this engine and ONLY get 350 whp. 400 whp is pretty much the default starting point.

Engine easily handles that power level, with any sort of decent tune. Its generally considered safe up to around 500 whp. Some say more.

Your big issue much above 450 is breaking everything else. Diff, trans, at some point axles. Those are all gonna need upgrading way before engine internals.

I've never turbo'd my car, only supercharged, but here's my 2 cents:

1. These numbers are easily achievable and you can run it all day. My tuner ran his turbo S2K up to 700hp and only blew through 3 diffs.
2. New SOS turbo kit or for minimal gains but keeping it CARB legal, Greddy.
3. Pretty much everything you listed + EMS, 4 Bar MAP sensor.
4. Aside from most kits not being carb legal, that's my biggest concern as I live in a strict emissions county. Can't speak on anything else.

For max power, turbo. For best drivability, turbo. More low end torque. More like other, powerful cars. Downside, a lot of undergood heat to deal with. More regular attention needed.

Centrifugal supercharger for most oem like results. Turnkey, just drive it. Same S power curve, just turned way up. Keeps S personality, just way more power at top of redline. Still anemic at low revs.

Your low power aspirations, either will easily accomplish. So its more about, you want a stronger S, or you want your S to be a stronger car? Also, how tolerant are you of mitigating heat? Heat shields, melting wiring, engine mounts that can deal with heat (and harshness that results), etc.

More power harder on drivetrain, but so is more low end torque. Slowly building power vs harder off the line.

I’m thingking the CXRacing turbo kit since it’s really the only kit I can afford right now. My goal is around 310–350 WHP max. I’m aiming for that range because I’m not sure how much the turbo that comes with the kit can reliably handle, so I’d rather stay on the safe side.

Plus with the supporting mods, tuning, and everything else needed, I can’t really afford a $5–7k turbo kit alone at the moment.

Just looking for a modest power increase while keeping the car relatively safe and reliable. What do you guys think?

Smells like mad trouble. S2000 gets insane expensive really fast. That tight of a budget is sure to bite you hard. Even a 3psi turbo setup can blow an engine and a s2000 engine is already your entire turbo budget.

350whp is pretty easy to achieve with a decent setup... It's more like a starting point. I run a low boost setup and have for almost 10 years. I used the car last year for at least 15 AutoX events, with several co-drivers and let a couple people takes some fun runs at the end of events to try the car. I also finished last year with a track day. I was fighting coolant temp rising, which I have theories on to sort out, but haven't touched the car in quite some time, but the car was solid otherwise.

This was the event at the end of last year which I was running 8 PSI on and EFR 7064.

With AutoX, I was running 10 PSI.

2006 = flashpro. The most economical and easy tuning solution. Easy for decent tuner to make a safe tune.
