Oil cooler for SOS Supercharger
I just ordered a SOS Stage 2 Supercharger and I was planning on running an oil cooler to reduce heat. I mainly plan to use the car for spirited driving in the mountains, and maybe 1 or 2 track days a year. I’ve read that running an oil cooler also reduces oil pressure. I talked to Chris at SOS and he recommended not running an oil cooler that it complicates the setup. Would I be better off running a vented hood? I have already upgraded my radiator. Would I be better off with or without one? Thanks! |
Add an oil temp and oil pressure gauge to the car and monitor these parameters. If you notice something is to high on oil temp or too low of oil pressure, address it when the time comes to do so. I see no reason to worry about it at this time.

I run HKS charger and with an oil cooler i still hit 110-120 degrees on track with outside temps around 7 degrees centigrade.

I probably will run one for the state of mind. I plan to run a 200 thermostat on the sandwich plate. I was gonna run Mishimoto, but I’ve heard more about Mocal. Which out of the two would you recommend? |
I have run one of these on my car for the past years except I swapped the sandwich plate for a thermostatic one. I haven't had any leaks and I haven't seen my oil temps above 260F. This is in the middle of the Florida summer at Sebring as well.

It's cheap insurance, but if you don't have an oil temp gauge then you don't know if you really need one. Secondly, if you don't track the car then I don't think you need it. |
A few years back I would run a fair amount of track days. So, I installed an oil cooler to compensate for the SC. It was not really large enough since I got track temps that were 120°+. But, I just got old and stopped going to the track much (only 1 time last year). I think that it was a prudent project and would do it again.

I heavily debated the same issue. In the end the extra money, work, loss of space, oil pressure, and constant vigilance of the fail safes and extra possible leaking points were not worth it to me. Instead i invested the money into a better radiator and spal fans. A cooler running engine will allow for cooler oil temps anyway.

I sell a 19Row fitting kit specifically for the s2000. Have a look on S12SpecialistCars website or on FB. The kit locates the cooler under the headlight so that you have the shortest hoses possible to reduce pressure loss and also not to stack in front of the rad.
