Opinion on engine build

Hi guys, been lurking here for a good year and decided to have a post regarding my motor!

I have recently dropped a valve in my stock F20C and have obliterated 2 cylinders...
So I am taking this opportunity to go turbo

My plan at the moment there is a local engine that I am looking at buying, it currently has a few things done on it already:

-Heads fully de-carbed/cleaned/surfaced
-Lapped valves
-Complete bottom end rebuild new crank, 2x rods, ACL mains, ACL rod bearings, 4x pistons
-Modified baffled sump
-Bored, honed and cylinder liners fitted
-Balanced

The bearing are damaged as there it has developed rod knock, so that will need to be addressed too.

I am thinking of using that with aftermarket valvetrain for a peace of mind... been looking at Brian Crower or Supertech at the moment.

Here in New Zealand we don't get many options for value for products made in the states.

I am planning to buy the dual spring/steel retainer/seat kit from BC
exhaust and intake valves will be in there too.
Will I need to purchase valve guides too or am I able to use OEM guides?
Same as the Keepers/Locks - I am assuming I can't use OEM?

Have also read factory pistons will be OK to use? Will also be getting an ARP kit as well.

Does my plan seem to be fairly reliable?
Thanks in advance, please don't roast me!

You need to figure out how much boost you'll be running and what sort of numbers you're chasing. If you just want around ~550hp I would invest your money elsewhere and buy a stock F20C that is reasonably low mileage and throw some updated oil jets in it and be done with it

I honestly don't know how many reputable engine builders there is in New Zealand that are experienced with this engine, but I would say it's probably even less than there is in Australia and that's not many

Thanks Braeden,

Yes there aren't many S2000 specialists here in NZ... if any at all.

Buying a low mileage F20C would be very expensive as places only sell it as a repower package (engine, trans, diff) for about $6000NZD
The F20C I am looking at is $2500NZD so there is a big price difference

Well, that sucks. At that sort of price difference I would try and have one shipped over from Australia, it would be considerably cheaper in the long run.

By low mileage I am talking less than 100,000 kilometres ;)

Hahaha yeah NZ isn't the best place for importing stuff... Had a look at yahoo japan and it was still 4.5k excl shipping and tax...

The engine I am getting has only done 15,000kms before it blew its bearings lol
