Project begins, f22 swap and ptuning kit

I know it’s been done here a lot, but it’s always kinda fun to see a build happen, so I’ll post up mine.

My F20 has about 150k on it and it appears to just now need bearings, as the oils pressure is down a bit and the VTEC is only engages when it’s cold (troubleshot it down to the ooont that I put an oil pressure gauge on it). It’s been supercharged as long as I’ve had it and makes about 400hp wives the Comptech kit and AEM ecu.

I'll rebuild the f20, but I have a fresh f22 with ARP head bolts I’ll be dropping in. Also, the Comptech kit will come out and a PTuning kit is going in. In a prior post I shared that this kit came out of a totaled s2000 that was wrecked by the shop that installed the kit. Apparently they were racing a Tesla. The owner never even got the chance to drive it. Sad story.

The kit has the gtx3076r turbo and “should” make about 550-580 hp when cranked up. It’ll also be a bit quieter that the supercharged set up. Not sure if that’s a plus or a minus.

The car has a studded diff so that should be good. The stock tranny will hold up until it doesn’t, then I’ll pull apart my spare and heat treat the gears. If the axles don’t hold up I have a set of Driveshaft Shop 1000 hp axles u can swap in. I don’t want to put them in now because the current OEMs are so smooth.

Just started. Pulled the splitter, nose, and took off the chasis mounted wing. The wing seems to have a tendency to grab people’s clothes when they walk around the car.

It’s headed to my friends shop on the 23rd and should be done in a week if nothing unusual pops up, which it will, lol.

Hell yea man, that's exciting.

Supercharger just wasn't enough for me. It felt pretty quick when I was running E85 at 500+ whp and 20+ psi (TTS), but the "holy shit" window of power was so narrow. Car was fun, but I just wanted more. In the same boat as you going turbo....Had a white girl moment and decided I hated all of it, sold all the supercharger stuff, and am now piecing together a turbo kit

Yah, right there with ya’. More boost! I like the car as it is, but I’ve wanted to swap to a turbo pretty much from day one. I’ve had the kit for a few years, just sitting in my garage after I changed my mind on installing it. Once the current motor acted up I thought I may as well swap the turbo in with the new motor.
ill be running an NLR AMS 1000 for boost control. It’s a great controller. I’ve got one on my bike. You can set boost per gear (no big deal) AND you can set the ramp rate. Basically you can make it act like a supercharger if you want, or you can have it spike like crazy if you like that.
Sad note: as “green” as Washington is, there are no local retailers of e85! I’ll be running pump plus meth injection. I’d rather e85 it. Still, I think 550-580 hp should be the end number when it’s cranked up.
Sadly, that level of hp will make it almost as quick as many Tesla SUVs, lol.

I’ll be putting the full Comptech kit up for sale as soon as the turbo set up is sorted. BTW

Good times about to be had going turbo.

What ECU are you planning to run? I have a brand new, unopened AEM Infinity 508 and AEM s2k harness if interested that I will let go for a nice deal.

I’m good on the ecu. Aem v2. Fun times ahead.

I'm right there with you. My F24 spun bearing and will be coming out. I have a F22 from an '04 with 31K on it ready to go in. Purchased a Ptuning kit that will ship out next week. My son and I will be doing the work ourselves when we can so it will take us quite a while.

A crazy yet unfortunate coincidence. Nice find on such a low mileage f22. I wasn’t aware that PTuning was making kits again. They’re suppose to be great kits.
Will you be running e85? Ptuning is big on that.

No I'm going run 93, not much E85 in sticks where I reside, and I'm old and only planning on 425-450 whp. I have a AEM v2, but I'm thinking of switching to MaxxECU, so in the future if the HP bug does keep on biting I may go flex, provided E85 will become more available.

I just found out literally yesterday that setting up for E85 is under 300 bucks. There’s some kind of gizmo that science of speed sells that sniffs the fuel and figure out what’s in there and then tell the ECU to run its map for e85. I was in the same boat as you with no 85 locally and I live in Seattle, a city that forces green everywhere. My neighbor up the street runs a speed shop and when I told him he said, dude, I’ve got 10 50 gallon drums of this stuff at all times in my shop. Kind of sealed the deal for me. I get the age thing and horsepower. I’m almost 60 and I’m starting to wonder when I’ll ever decide that enough is enough. Is there a 12 step program for this?
