Default Quicky Haltech Question

I am not familiar with Haltech and had one installed and tuned last year. I have directions from my tuner to change the VTEC crossover because it is set too low and I am bumping it up a few hundred rpm.

My question is, when I had emanage you would link in with the laptop, change a setting and then you had to export that setting change from the laptop into the emanage. Do I need to do the same export in haltech or when the laptop is communicating with Haltech or does it update the ecu in real time?

If I need to actively export the change into Haltech, is there an icon or something in the drop downs that does it? I don't remember seeing anything intuitive when I looked through it last time. Just wondering if I make the change and then save a new file to my laptop if that is all I need to change the setting in the ecu.

Thanks.

John

Most changes in Haltech are real-time. If a change requires you to cycle power to the ECU the Haltech software will alert you. You do not need to export/import or anything like that. Just hook up, turn the car on (don't need to start the engine) and hit CONNECT in the software. Your settings will load into ECU Manager and you can make the change.

For your peace of mind you can then save your tune to your computer as a backup. I would save a version of the current tune before you make any changes too, just in case.

FYI those VTEC settings are found in Setup > Main Setup > Output (button on left) > VCT Switched (tab at top)

What is your VTEC crossover set to right now that he is saying is too low? I know you have a similar setup as to what I had in the past... I was set at 4,100 RPM.

Couldn't you just download your current tune, email him the file, have him make the changes and email you back a modified tune, and then you upload the new tune? If you are unfamiliar with making changes in the software wouldn't you feel more comfortable just plugging in and hitting "Upload"?

Thanks for the feedback Coolguy. Vtec is set to always on at any rpm, but kicks in depending on throttle position. In the 3000-4000 rpm range I get wierd hiccups when rolling on partial throttle. It acts like a chute opens behind the car and afr's dive into the tens. If I back off and go WOT it is fine, but I think the low rpm and partial throttle it is not enough to make VTEC work smoothly. So I am just bumping the threshold for VTEC from any rpm, to a lower end of 4000 until I go for a couple tweaks if I change the exhaust this summer. I really don't know why I would need vtec at 3500 rpm anyway, since the car is in to the 4000 range almost immediately anyway.

Hopefully just raising the threshold will smooth everything out. The tune was great except for this behavior at part throttle between 3400-3800 rpm and VTEC, and cold weather idle needs to be leaned out a bit. It was tuned in 80 degree weather, but once it drops below 50 degrees my idle is 12.0 or richer depending on temp.

After my bad-tune four-times-in-the-same-shop without a fix nightmare, this last guy gave me a near perfect tune in one two hour shot.

Transient throttle settings were always tough for me on my tune. You definitely need to correct that VTEC setting thing, but it could also have something to do with your transient throttle settings. There are a TON of variables and settings on transient throttle for the Haltech. I think it would take a few hours of street tuning in different weather conditions to get it perfect. I was tuned in the winter the first time and ended up tinkering with the transient throttle stuff on my own once summer came around.
