Default rear diff ap2

i just put a greddy turbo kit in my 2006. I was thinking about doing a ct housing and a kazz 1.5 LSD because i was reading that the s2000 rear gives out real easy while searching the forums i stumbled upon this statement.

Model Year 2004
(Second generation S2000).
"By moving to an FCD material (from FC), the case rigidity was improved by 40% while the overall case strength was increased 20%."

I was just wondering if this statement is true and if it is how much power can the ap2 rear hold. I intend on doing a clutch real soon also.

If don't have to spend the money on a rear won't. I really appreciate the advice you people give me. Its been help having all info on this forum.

Well the AP2 diff is a bit stronger, you can find a lot more information over in the moddification parts forum. The diff can handle pretty good power but not launch after launch. So as long as your power goal is reasonable and you don't launch. You should be fine.

For a Greddy kit you should not have any trouble. If you are launch very hard on sticky tires you could break the factory diff so if you did not break it before dont worry.

You may want to look into a Puddymod diff before you spend the money on the new LSD. The failure point on the factory rear is almost always due to the pinion gear walking. Thus Ben (S2KPuddydad) has a fix for the pinion and carier bearings and heat treats the casing among other things.

Yeah I have gone through two ap1 diffs so far with my CTSC. On both the ring/pinion failed, the case was fine. I'm currently installing an ap2 diff, it was available at the right price is why I switched. I don't think the ap2 diff is any better as far as the ring/pinion strength and that’s where it seems to be weakest in my case. I spin the tires on occasion, its not really avoidable when you have the power, I don't drag the car though. Sucks the diff internals are so weak, I guess if I have to spend $500 for a used one every other year its just part of the deal.
