Reliability....
So i have a quick question...
I kno most people say that turbos could be made reliable and could be tracked... but no one has really done it yet. So i was wondering which one would be more reliable under track conditions.... A Comptech/vortech/maybe kraftwerks supercharger at 360+ whp with a built motor (for example Benson's sleeved block with custom cp pistons and Pauter rods, maybe head work) Plus a 75-100 shot of nitrous Direct Port..... OR An Inlinepro Turbo Kit hoping to boost to about 400 whp.... ?? Also all cooling mods possible will be done to either setup.... |
I take it you are talking quarter mile? If you are, turbo hands down.

im after both 1/4 mile and highway runs....
But im thinking that a supercharger that puts down 360+ whp plus a 100 shot of nitrous should be able to take a turbo? |
but a turbo pushing 360whp will still pull on a sc pushing 360 to the wheels only because the turbo spools down low and gives you that low end torque that the SC doesnt give.
And add your 100 shot of nitrous......bye bye :) |
Being that a turbo makes full power sooner in the curve than a supercharger it makes it rougher on the engine. A SC engine is only experiencing full boost right before redline therefore it creates less strain on the engine but the turbocharged car will be faster.

but however the supercharger puts more strain on the drive-train and thats why you get parasitic lag. Superchargers have greatly exceeded what they used to be but when it comes to power delivery the turbo wins out every time. With both your going to have to beef up the necessary parts in the drive-train to cope with the added power. So go with what gives you the best bang for your buck. Also tuning plays a huge role in reliability! don't think because its a turbo it wont be reliable that is completely false. Have fun and enjoy which ever boost you decide to get!!!

I don't see how people always argue about the parasitic drag of a supercharger on the drivetrain. The amount of power needed to spin the supercharger is very minimal.

I have very good tuners where i am... but for reasons such as heat and track like conditions i was wondering if the supercharger and nitrous would be more reliable than the turbo? i wouldnt mind having a supercharger for everday driving b.c i DD my car and use nitrous for the 1/4 mile.... |
I may be wrong but nitrous and reliability don't really go together. I would stick with a SC or turbo. I'd lean towards the turbo, maybe a IP setup for know reliability with a GT35R it would get you easily into the power range your looking for (I am kinda partial to IP :) ). Run a low boost setting for everyday driving and maybe a high boost setting for highway runs and track times.
