Default ScienceofSpeed High Flow Dual / Single Pump Fuel Surge Tank System

ScienceofSpeed High Flow Fuel Surge Tank System

http://www.scienceofspeed.com/produc...el_surge_tank/

We are excited to release information on the new ScienceofSpeed High Flow Fuel Surge Tank System. This product combines the functions of two products: a "dual fuel pump hanger" with a fuel surge tank to offer both high fuel flow for high horsepower demands (over 1000 BHP with gasoline or 850 BHP with E85) as well as fuel surge protection. Dual fuel pump solutions as well as fuel surge tanks are nothing new to the market. However, after ScienceofSpeed experienced severe fuel starvation issues with the development of the ScienceofSpeed Unlimited S2000 race car and several solutions were tried - we were unhappy with the existing offerings and decided to develop our own solution which combines the benefits of high fuel flow with optimal fuel surge protection design.

As many know, the S2000 experiences fuel starvation especially once race tires are used from lateral and acceleration G forces acting on the factory fuel tank which is not designed for the forces experienced on many S2000s that are used on the track. Factory powered cars may experience slight hesitation or power loss which although may feel insignificant, leads to measurable lap time loss. High horsepower cars can experience far worse - including ScienceofSpeed documented detonation caused engine failure from fuel starvation. The problem gets worse the higher the demand of engine from high horsepower applications. Dual fuel pumps in the factory tank do nothing to solve fuel starvation issues.

Rather than requiring our customers to purchase two products - a dual fuel pump hanger, and a surge suppression system - we've designed a product which combines the two functions in one reasonably priced solution. The ScienceofSpeed High Flow Surge Tank can be used with either one fuel pump in the tank (including applications from factory power all the way to 690 BHP gasoline / 515 BHP E85) or as a dual fuel pump solution offering over 1000 BHP gasoline / 850 BHP E85 of fuel flow. We've combined the features of other fuel surge protection systems in a solution that is compact enough to fit outside the cabin using factory mounting locations, may use factory fuel lines were appropriate, and offers the most efficient use of volume so that the surge tank needs less than 3/8" of fuel height top function - offering 30-60 seconds of surge protection - even if the factory fuel tank is dry. 30-60 seconds of surge protection is far beyond the length of time any corner may cut off fuel flow.

The designs allows the in-tank fuel pump to offer at peak efficiency since the fuel operates at nearly zero fuel pressure. An in tank pump can supply up to 450 PH of fuel flow at near zero pressure, well beyond the maximum rated capacity of over 1000 BHP gasoline / 850 BHP E85.

The system offers several key features including ethanol compliant surfaces, seals, and wires, a proper hermetically sealed electrical connector, flexible mounting positions, flexible fuel fitting positions, available factory-location mounting brackets requiring no drilling, and a compact light weight design including exclusive CNC-machined billet aluminum construction.

The ScienceofSpeed High Flow Fuel Surge Tank System is designed as a universal product which can be installed on nearly any vehicle. S2000 specific accessories (mounting bracket, electrical harness, and fuel plumbing kit) are sold individually so that our customers may choose to use their own accessories or accessories designed by ScienceofSpeed.

Frequently Asked Questions:
  • Is a dual pump hanger required?
No. Because the pump located in the factory fuel pump operates at nearly 0 PSI, it performs at peak efficiency. One single pump in the factory fuel tank can support over 1000 BHP with gasoline or 850 BHP with E85.
  • What parts other than the surge tank are required?
The ScienceofSpeed Fuel Surge Tank is a universal design for nearly any vehicle. S2000 specific accessories are sold individually so that our customers may use their own accessories or accessories designed by ScienceofSpeed. This includes:
    - fuel pump(s)
    - mounting bracket
    - electrical harness kit
    - fuel plumbing kit
  • Which fuel pumps are used by the ScienceofSpeed High Flow Surge Tank?
The ScienceofSpeed High Flow Surge Tank utilizes center inlet style pumps offered by Walbro and AEM. These pumps are economical in price and highly reliable.
  • What if my car is factory (no supercharger or turbocharger)?
The ScienceofSpeed Fuel Surge Taks System is designed for use on factory powered cars as well as high horsepower forced induction cars. Fuel starvation in corners even in a factory powered car results in slower lap times from power loss.
  • What if I do not want to remove my emissions control box?
No problem - the fuel surge tank can be mounted horizontally or vertically in any position where there is sufficient room for the 8.4" x 5" cylinder.
  • How much power can this support?
    - Single pump: from factory power to 690 BHP gasoline / 515 BHP E85
    - Dual pump: over 1000 BHP gasoline / 850 BHP E85
  • Does this work on a 2006-09 S2000?
Yes, however, a return fuel system conversion must be installed.

Yes, it mounts under the car. We do not prefer to mount it in the cabin as others do, but if you want to, this is an option.

The mounting bracket we offer mounts in place of the rear emissions control module. As this must be replaced to fit in this location, this application is for offroad racing use only and must not be used on a pollution controlled vehicle. The universal bracket however may be used to mount in other locations, including the engine bay (by replacing the factory air box, for example).

A return fuel system is required, we suggest our conversion kit:
