Spark Plugs?

I think I need some new spark plugs as mine look like this:

Should I stick with OEM or go with something else?
My setup:
Competch S/C w/aftercooler (stock boost for now)

I believe that the Denso IK24s are highly recommended for FI. Can anybody explain to me what "gapping" them is and how to do it? Thanks!

Ryan

Gapping is the distance between the 2 spark points at the tip. You just get a gapping tool from autozone for under $1 and set the gap according to how it measures on the tool.

"Gapping" is setting the distance between the electrode (pointy thing in the middle) and the ground electrode. Here is cool tech article: http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/techinfo/spar...1000&country=US

^^ That's what happens when you click reply and then get stuck doing work :banghead: TGIF!!

I use NGK 7173's gapped at .034

What should the Denso IK24s be gapped at for a Vortech SC? Thanks a lot!

OK good question here...24s are same heat range as stock correct? How many steps colder (I take it the 22s are colder) are the 22s?

revhi 08-05-2005 04:11 PM

I thought the Ik24's are one step colder.

Also be very careful in gapping iridium plugs, dont use the gap tool. The tip breaks very easily. Mine are down to .028 with a set of pliers and some light tapping.

Revhi is correct, the Ik24's are one step colder.
I had them in my car for a little while and didn't really like them that much (it was a while ago, so I can remember the exact reasoning but do remember I didn not like them that much). Sold them & went with NGK 7173's per recommendation of Joe with Hardtopguy.com. Never turned back
